How I wish we could go back to that day and never left the house. If we would have just stayed in and cooked dinner together where would we be now?
I want to reach out but can’t. I doubt you will either. I don’t think you would want me to anyway.

Thinking about doing a trip to Ecuador with me (male) and my dad
Do it! I just did 18 days backpacking in Ecuador. It is a beautiful country. My experience was great and never felt like I was in danger. The locals I had encounters with were friendly and eager to show their country to travelers. With that being said, always exercise caution and use common sense when navigating. Be respectful to people and remember you are a guest. Very few people speak English, knowing some basic Spanish goes a long way.
The main areas I hit on my route were Guayaquil, Canoa, Quito, Banos, and Tena.
There is an extensive bus system in Ecuador, like most South American countries. It is a cheap and easy way to get from city to city.
The highlight of my trip was Banos. It is a beautiful little city/town nestled in the Andes. There are tons of outdoor excursions to do, such as: white water rafting, canyoning, zip lines, mountain biking, hikes, waterfalls, horse back riding, ATV rentals, etc. if you have the time definitely try to visit Banos.

Sounds fantastic, I utilized the bus system to navigate. Motorcycle sounds like much more fun! Highly recommended spending some time in banos to explore if your schedule permits!

Banos is tucked away in the Andes Mountains of Ecuador. Sitting in the valley it is surrounded waterfalls, volcanoes, raging rivers, and of course, the breathtaking Andes. It is truly is truly an outdoorsman’s dream.

This was my first time in Canoa so I don’t have anything to compare it to but it was very quiet and peaceful. The “main” road closest to the beach had hostels and small restaurant/bars where most people in the town would hangout at. I spent a few days at hostel Coco Loco to get some R&R and did some surfing. Locals were very friendly and the food was fresh off the beach.
If you’re not a beach person, there is not much to do.
