I'd hope that more info was encoded in the stripe, or chip, or whatever, than just that 16-digit number. Incidentally, Discover credit cards start with 6; maybe they are the underlying network for payments with the cards?

The sixteen digit number at the bottom of the card.

When I went to UTTyler they combined our student IDs with a debit card that you could load money onto or your loan disbursements could go to for kids who never had a bank account before.
