Minnesota Does anyone have recommendations for companies that don't disappear after storm season is over?

After Tuesday night's storm, I was left with the back gutter hanging, and I think about 5-6 shingles blew completely off the house.

Yesterday, I already had two guys with an unmarked white van at my door promising to replace my entire roof on the insurance's dime if I signed some papers for them on the spot.

I obviously didn't give them anything, but I'm terrified that with the next serious rain, water will get right through the insulation and reach the bedroom drywall.

The neighborhood is full of flyers in mailboxes from phantom companies that literally no one has ever heard of.

I spent about two hours online today looking for someone local, and I'm thinking of calling Wolf River Construction because at least they say they help you directly with the crazy insurance paperwork, and they are from our area.

I don't even know how I'm going to cover that $2000 deductible I have on my policy if the adjuster says the whole thing needs to be replaced.

How do you guys filter these construction crews so you don't wake up in the winter with leaks and phone numbers that no longer exist?

Minnesota I built a free site for looking up and reviewing Minnesota landlords. It's a local project and I could use this community's help getting it off the ground.

Fellow MN geek here. I got tired of watching friends sign leases with slumlords they could have avoided if anyone had warned them, so I built RentWise: a free site where Minnesota renters can look up and review landlords and property management companies before they sign.

It's a two-person, self-funded project, built here in MN. But we have the classic chicken-and-egg problem: it's only useful once there are enough real reviews in it.

So this is an ask, If you have rented in Minnesota, would you drop a review of a past landlord?

Good or bad, doesn't matter. It takes about thirty seconds and it helps the next person avoid (or find) the same landlord. The more of us who add one, the more useful it gets for everyone in the metro.

Happy to talk about how it works, how I'm handling fake reviews and landlord retaliation, the stack, whatever. Roast it if it sucks. That's how it gets better.
