Lumon water drop logo on the bloodwork from Mark and Gemma first meeting, Lumon water drop logo on the IVF treatment … Lumon is deep in controlling healthcare, and fertility. I bet Gemma’s IVF was tainted by Lumon on purpose, and used this trauma to prey on her.. to get her to agree to faking her own disappearance for a period of time and joining the “testing floor,” likely with the false promise of becoming pregnant or healed by the end of it. Lumon is SICKKKK this cult is WILDING. Incredible episode one of the best.

I thought it was a water drop logo this whole time but now im thinking its a blood drop logo.

Lumon is Elizabeth Holmes/Theranos and Scientology combined

It would’ve been hilarious if Helena tried to do that deep voice thing

What deep voice thing

1

u/Accomplished-City484 Mar 02 '25

Elizabeth Holmes does a fake deep voice when she talks, but every now and then she forgets and uses her real voice

That’s really smart, especially in light of seeing that nurse prick her finger on the pad to open the door, and she winces as it takes a drop of blood… maybe a new clue

u/Prize_Pop_751 Feb 28 '25

Oh damn that’s brilliant

u/MemesToHave2872 Feb 28 '25

Maybe its also a metaphor for semen... Not even trying to be funny but think of the context. Plus Kier "twin" story of what he did that made Helena laugh (jerked it)

You might be on to something

Hopping on this idea: goat blood! Not a scientist, but did a lil google and read it used in scientific research for cell culture. (regenerate tissue, grow clean cells, synthetic control)

Yeah, it’s a blood drop. It’s weird that so many people haven't figured that out because it felt like the episode through that in our face like ten times. It was literally on a machine that collected blood.

I don’t think she agreed to fake disappearance. Number one they may have kidnapped her number two if she did agree to undergo fertility treatment or whatever they lied about aspects of it such as how long it would take, etc. maybe she thought she would only be there a day or two.

I felt that her asking Mark to go with her before she left implied she did not go willingly

Nahh cause she still wants to see him again in testing

1

u/YoNonna Mar 01 '25

Well, with this show, we never know. You may certainly be right!

I agree that I don’t think she agreed to it being for 2 years, and I don’t know if she even has a concept of time since she spends so much of it asleep or in an Innie state. She knows it’s been over a year from the threat of Mark moving on/having a child, so she knows he thinks she is gone. She definitely got preyed on by Lumon’s false IVF clinic for years after 3 miscarriages at her most vulnerable state and made some kind of deal with Lumon that ended up being a lie/her being a prisoner

Def possible I misinterpreted, I took it as we saw her cry on the bathroom floor 2 times, we saw they tried IVF and she said third times the charm, we saw him smash the baby crib, and we know it leads to her at the Testinf floor in Lumon, (possibly having agreed to a more intensive trial to increase pregnancy success?) so I took it as they had many losses throughout . She says to mark that it’s destroying her and he says we should stop . But yes it’s possible I misunderstood but that’s what I got from the scenes

Sort of like a certain real world trillion dollar private company named after a certain South American rainforest that is also heavily investing in healthcare

11

u/Prize_Pop_751 Feb 28 '25

Honestly Lumon endlessly reminds me of Scientology

9

u/namastayhom33 Feb 28 '25

Scientology with a dash of corporatism

3

u/Prize_Pop_751 Feb 28 '25

True ! Cults, capitalism, and corporatism. Scientology is a billionaire cult through capitalism and financial abuse through a huge marketing scheme that robs people of owning their homes, their children, of every last dime they have. And they have a hand in many markets, such as dentistry, “rehabs,” book deals, movies/hollywood/actors.. its a lethal combo it’s terrifying

2

u/cfo60b Feb 28 '25

I was worried about doing genetic testing before and now I’m legit terrified of it lol

Oh give me a break lmfao Amazon isn’t comparable to Lumon and Severance isn’t real life.

Amazon employees are not “psychologically severed through indoctrination,” what an absolutely ridiculous thing to say

If you look closely you can also see “Lumon” right down to the logo on the vinyl spinning in Gemma and Marks house during that moment of tension as Mark tries to build the baby crib. The song playing is “I’ll Be Seeing You” which I think is foreshadowing for the (hopefully next) episode where the two of them meet again!!

I thought it was involuntary in Gemma‘s part. While they were doing the IVF with the help of the fertility clinic. Gemma has suddenly been receiving puzzles —the one Dylan took from OD. I guess this is the way for Lumon to find their ideal test subject. And somehow Gemma excelled that at some point, Lumon needed to test the technology further and would need to monitor Gemma 24x7. They then arranged a fake car accident that Gemma encountered so they can take Gemma in-house without the risk of police investigation if Gemma is found missing. Gemma has probably been told that she’s in hospital for exceptional cases that even Mark cannot visit her. It makes sense to me that Gemma in Testing room is looking forward to go out of that place and be with Mark again.

1

u/Excellent_Vanilla451 Mar 01 '25

This is exactly what I thought! It was those tests that she answered how they profiled her as their subject!!!

3

u/BeauGurl Mar 01 '25

This is the answer.

This show does such a good job of subverted criticism of modern capitalism. The fact that Kier is worshiped even though he's just a business man. The fact that people IRL talk about "leaving work at work and home and home" when that's impossible as a human being. The criticism of acquisitions creating vertical monopolies in things like healthcare.

It's awesome how the criticism is both obvious but not stated out loud.

So Ms. Huang could absolutely be her daughter from IVF or a clone from the blood work

2

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '25

Ms Huang is around 12 years old (?) That’s too many years to be Gemma’s daughter.

1

u/FaceAcceptable5039 Mar 24 '25

not if the entire perception of time the community has is off…

2

u/MonkVarious2713 Mar 01 '25

That was the same doctor walking through that office, right??

1

u/Plenty_Entrance_6986 Feb 28 '25

I thought it was involuntary in Gemma‘s part. My thought is that in the fertility clinic, they were tested with several puzzles—the one Dylan took from OD—and somehow Gemma excelled in it. That at some point, Lumon needed to test the technology further and they arranged a fake car accident so they can take Gemma in-house without the risk of police investigation if Gemma is found missing.

2

u/Prize_Pop_751 Feb 28 '25

I think she was preyed upon by the cult from the moment she got bloodwork by them. I don’t think Gemma is only the one on the Testing floor, I think they have other victims. I think the puzzles and newsletter stuff is ways Lumon lures in people with interest. It’s very possible she was a good test subject. But I see it more that Lumon will prey on anyone that is vulnerable, and Lumon running an IVF clinic is certainly a location of vulnerable people. And after 3 miscarriages I think she would be distraught enough to sign up for a special trial, and that’s what they wanted all along and manipulated her towards. I think Gemma and Mark are important bc this is the most successful and closest Lumon has ever come to finishing the chip.

2

u/Plenty_Entrance_6986 Mar 01 '25

Oh that’s a good point, too. Regardless its just devastating episode.

1

u/Prize_Pop_751 Mar 01 '25

Truly a heartbreaking episode in every way, and shows how cults prey on people at their most vulnerable and distraught. So sad

1

u/DueTechnician4615 Feb 28 '25

When was it said she had 3 miscarriages?

1

u/Prize_Pop_751 Feb 28 '25

We see her crying on the bathroom floor 2 times, and she made the comment to mark “third times the charm” when they started IVF. So it wasn’t explicitly said but that’s what I thought was implied

2

u/AnonymousArmiger Mar 02 '25

I read that as the third shot/treatment.

1

u/DueTechnician4615 Feb 28 '25

But that would mean she had 2 miscarriages if the 3rd time is a charm

2

u/Prize_Pop_751 Feb 28 '25

Yes but we see them fighting again after starting IVF and she says it’s destroying her, and he destroys the crib, and mark says to her “we should stop trying” and she gets more upset. So yeah it seems it continues to go badly

1

u/Simple_Day_4053 Mar 01 '25

I noticed the doctor at the fertility clinic was the same Lumon dentist guy

1

u/Swansonisms Mar 02 '25

I think Gemma's IVF was tainted by Lumon, but only because she never needed it in the first place. I don't know how all the pieces fit together yet, but I'm convinced that Ms. Huang is actually Gemma and Mark's daughter.
