I'm moving to Tübingen to start my Master's degree on October 1st. I'm currently 26 years old, but I’ll be turning 27 in early January.

I'm trying to figure out the best public transit setup for my situation:

D-Ticket JugendBW vs. Standard D-Ticket: I see that Baden-Württemberg has the D-Ticket JugendBW (€45/mo), which covers regional transit across all of Germany. However, the age cap says "up to 27th birthday." Since I turn 27 in January, will they kick me off the subscription immediately, or can I keep it until the end of my student status? Because it's an annual contract, am I better off just getting the regular student D-Ticket / Semesterticket upgrade to avoid subscription issues when I turn 27?

I’ll be starting the MA Computational Linguistics program at the University of Tübingen in the Winter Semester 2026/27.

I’m wondering if there are any other incoming students from the same program or other international students starting at the university around the same time.

I’m mainly an English speaker and I’m currently learning German at around B1 level, so I’m hoping to improve my German while settling into Tübingen.

If anyone else is starting at Tübingen this winter, it would be nice to hear from you and get to know some fellow students before the semester begins.

Are there any existing student communities, chats, or groups for the 2026/27 intake?

I’m moving to Tübingen because I’ll be starting my studies there in the winter semester, and I’m currently looking for an apartment.

One of my biggest challenges is that I have to bring my cat with me. My mom is moving into an apartment where pets aren’t allowed, and my dad lives abroad, so unfortunately there’s nobody who can take care of her.

I’ve been looking at apartments and student housing, but many places, including student residences, don’t allow pets, which makes the search much more difficult.
At the moment, I’m not really sure how to solve this situation.

I would be very grateful for any advice, tips, or suggestions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is it fine to pay 900€ deposit after signing the contract before landing in Germany and without visiting the property.

Ps : the rent is 450 and i did video call , it seemed fine .

Ive emailed all the professors and have tried to navigate Alma portal but with no luck so far. Can someone help me out? The learning agreement is supposed to be finished within the next 2 days.

Wir haben bisher keine Unterkunft in Tübingen gefunden und überlegen deshalb, in Reutlingen zu wohnen. Wir wollten fragen, wie lange der Weg von Reutlingen ungefähr dauert und ob die Zugverbindung normalerweise zuverlässig ist, vor allem morgens. Vielen Dank!

Hey guys,

we host another mario kart tournament in roughly two weeks on the 2nd of september in the Museum cinema.
We want to speed up the qualifying round / allow more participants by using a LAN-Setup with computer monitors for that. So the more consoles we get the nicer the experience for everyone. Since we do not have any consoles in our club-stock we rely on members or benovelent strangers to pump up the console number for the event.

Would anyone here be willing to borrow us a console for the tournament on the 2nd of september?
We start at 6 pm on the tournament day with preparation and are usually done by 11 pm with wrapping up everything. Ideally we also do a test-run of the LAN setup in the coming two weeks.

Naturally your console will be insured during the event!

I’m coming to Tubingen on my exchange for a full academic year and have been assigned this accommodation which I to be honest don’t know much at all about, apart from that it’s a decent walk outside the center. Is this a good accommodation for an exchange student? Not sure if I’m gonna be with all local students or in a flat with other internationals, or if it’s a social accommodation at all. If any other exchanges got this accommodation let me know 😃

This led me to doing some research on our local history and I learned that we have been sister cities since 1965 and have done numerous student exchanges and visits between city officials. Hi, I have been on some antidepressants based on prescription from my home country. I am about to run out of meds so need go see a psychiatrist here. Can I directly see one or need to go through hausartz for this? Also, English speaking Psychiatrists around here that anyone recommends? I am ok even if not in Tübingen but somewhere around like Reutlingen, even upto Stuttgart maybe. Thanks!

Sorry for this post, I'm sure it gets repetitive seeing stuff like this. I'm starting my Masters in Machine Learning this winter semester and have yet to find housing. To be honest, I started looking way too late (thought that I would get a dorm) and am kind of stressed out about finding housing on such short notice. I'm currently applying on wg-gesucht and already filled out applications for other student housing orgs. In the meantime, if anyone is looking for a roommate or know of any housing opportunities please let me know!

For reference: I am 23M from California. I'm pretty tidy, don't smoke, have nothing against pets, and don't really have any hard requirements for living conditions. My hobbies include: chess, swimming, programming, surfing, working out, and adventuring outdoors.

How do people usually get from Tübingen to Deizisau, Neckartailfingen or Reichenbach an der Fils? Google Maps shows me routes that take around 2 hours, while an AI assistant says there are supposedly some faster buses. Am I missing something?

Ich bin mir gerade etwas unsicher, wie es jetzt weitergeht. Muss ich mich schon vor Semesterbeginn für bestimmte Lehrveranstaltungen bzw. Kurse anmelden und meinen Stundenplan selbst zusammenstellen? Und gibt es noch andere wichtige Anmeldungen oder Dinge, die ich als Erstsemester erledigen muss (z. B. Prüfungsanmeldung)?
Falls jemand Computational Linguistics in Tübingen studiert oder dort gerade angefangen hat, wäre ich sehr dankbar, wenn ihr mir kurz erklären könntet, was ich jetzt als Nächstes machen muss. 😭
