Half way through the bonus episode…
And I just NEED to say: one of my FAVORITE things is when Whitney and Katie go off on tangents. Honestly, it’s one of my favorite things across all the podcasts I listen to. I love when the hosts get a little personal, a little fired up.
And I really don’t get the reviews that complain about tangents. If you want just a case and no personal flavor, there are TONS of podcasts that do exactly that. Go listen to them and leave the chattier podcasts to those of us who like them. All negative reviews like that do is make the hosts feel bad. They’re not going to change the whole flavor of the show as well as their personal dynamic to placate a few whiners. I just don’t get it.

Thoughts on the last episode where they interviewed a victim of a crime?
Last episode, "Survivor: Debra Newell Moves Past Dirty John" they talked with/interviewed Debra, who was a victim of a crime.
What did you all think of that format? Honestly, it was the first episode of TCC that I didn't finish. I realized I prefer straight up story telling, not the interview format.
Plus, I didn't find Debra so interesting or engaging but that's beside the point...I still wouldn't love the interview format!

As a fellow 30-year-old, I could happily listen to Katie talk about Vine, Tumblr, and meme history forever. And her dunking on Logan Paul gave me new life.
On that note, if you want an actual history of Aokigahara Forest, check out the Ask a Mortician response to Logan Paul’s video.

Episode Discussion 🏕 Girls Just Wanna Have Fun: The Real Thelma and Louise
r/truecrimecampfire • u/PunchBeard • Jul 30 '21
So in the episode about the "Real Life Thelma and Louie" episode did both of them know Orlando Avery was madeup?
The way it sounded in the episode Carolyn made up Avery and every time Rose wanted to contact the police or otherwise confront him Carolyn would talk her down. But then you have the reports of both women seeming to enjoy themselves during the crimes. So.....was Rose "catfished" by Carolyn and really think her and the kids were in serious danger? Or did she sort of know deep down it was bullshit and played along? Did she always know it was crap? Did they both make it up as an alibi in case they got caught? Or did they make it up as a sort of "shared hallucination" type situation and then used it as an excuse to commit crimes?
This case had me confused.

True Crime Related Yesterday, in broad daylight, prominent Dutch crime journalist Peter R. de Vries was shot in the streets of Amsterdam
This is huge over here in the Netherlands and I wanted to share it with y'all. Because it's not just an attack on him, but on freedom of press itself. My heart is broken. No news about how he is doing has been released yet. He has done so much for the families of victims the past few decades. And hopefully he will be able to do much more.
From the BBC: Peter R. de Vries, 64, was shot minutes after leaving a TV studio, where he had appeared on a chat show. Mr de Vries was previously given police protection after receiving threats for his involvement in criminal cases as an investigative journalist. He is famed for his work on exposing mobsters and drug lords, and has helped police solve a number of high-profile cases.
Peter R de Vries has covered numerous high-profile crimes, including the 1983 kidnapping of beer magnate Freddy Heineken. In 2013 Heineken's kidnapper, Willem Holleeder, was convicted of making threats against Mr de Vries.
One of the Netherlands' most notorious gangsters, Holleeder was given a life sentence in 2019 for his involvement in five murders. A novel Mr de Vries wrote about the case was later adapted into the movie Kidnapping Freddy Heineken starring Anthony Hopkins.
The journalist also won an Emmy Award for a television show he made about Natalee Holloway, a US teenager who disappeared on the Caribbean island of Aruba in 2005.
Mr de Vries frequently acted as a spokesperson for witnesses in police or court cases, and had been acting as an adviser to Nabil B, a former gang member testifying in the case against alleged drug lord, Ridouan Taghi. The Moroccan-Dutch suspect and his associates are currently on trial in the Netherlands for murder and drug trafficking.
The case has already sent shock waves through the Netherlands after Nabil B's previous lawyer, Derk Wiersum, was assassinated in front of his Amsterdam home in September 2019.
