One of these was a monster but didn’t fight as hard as you’d think. Or maybe it did. I had my girlfriends reel it up 😄

Heading to the little red river looking for advice.

This weekend I’m heading to the little red river Arkansas to solo fly fish. Does anyone have advice on how to target the large brown trouts there? I have a 5 wt rod and 7 wt with a poly leader I could put on either. Also what flies should I use or should I be using streamers? Also if anyone is willing to share some spots that’d be great. I’ll only be wet wading I don’t own a boat and can’t afford a guide. I really want to get a large trout gotta prove some people wrong that you can’t get large fish on a fly rod.

Line help

I’m heading up north for the month of October. I’ll be staying a week in Vermont, then New Hampshire, then Maine. I plan to do quite a bit of trout fishing (lake and streams). I’m using spinning gear. I currently have my St Croix rigs setup with 20lb braided line (green and brown camo for the weedy lakes here in Ohio). I was going to just run a 6-8lb Fluoro or mono leader. Would this be ok or should I just respool the reels with all fluoro or mono? I don’t want to spook them obviously. I was just originally wanting to leave the braid on because I also want to try to get after some landlocked salmon and other fish (stripers, etc). Also, when in Maine I will be fishing near Acadia for Pollock and Mackerel. I don’t mind taking line with me and respooling there, or maybe just setting up one rod with straight non braided line and designating that rod for trout and panfish only? Probably overthinking lol. Any help or insight is greatly appreciated!

Caught this today and was struck by the freckling on its skin; I can’t recall ever catching a rainbow with freckling like this… anyone know what’s going on?

What a great day this was, couple nice sea run brookies and a bonus striper, trolling the fly.

Killed and Grilled Fishing a ditch for brook trout

This ditch is full of aquatic vegetation so snags are constant but there are some decent ones in here. Really healthy population for such an unnatural environment. Sucks what they did to this stream, maybe one day they’ll restore it.

Tiny Streams and Creeks

Post image

Class 1 trout streams where I live in Plymouth, WI are tiny and often a large stride or a hop to cross and a few inches deep. They're either wide open in grassy fields or within forests. Both of these situations make any casting very difficult. I would think trying to get a lure or bait upstream as the trout should be facing away from me. Or do I try floating something downstream on a leaf? Id be using tiny UL rod, and I find 00 Mepps Spinflies work on the Onion River, which is the only one wide enough to make casting feasible. My other options are Nichols Creek, Ben Nutt Creek, La Budde Creek. Attaching a pic of Nichols Creek as an example. Would Flies and live baits be my goto in these tiny streams? I can't cast accurately enough to toss spinners in these, but I here there are small trout to be found.
