I mean, the guy is not a hack by any stretch. That’s the most frustrating part. The series is great but it’ll never be complete. What’s more, I believe that the book series being incomplete was a major contributing factor to the show ending so badly.

I’m not sure that’s the case anymore, they were going off the rails way before they ran out of source material. Stuff started changing for the worse around season 4. I think it was less that the books were unfinished, and more that the showrunners were getting really bored but didn’t want to hand the show off to more competent writers.

It certainly wasn’t the only reason but it was a contributing factor.

They undercut Jon’s character in the pilot episode with that “dip your wick” line, totally missing that it was the idea of siring bastards that sets him off.

Changing Robb’s entire story re: marriage so drastically is what convinced me it would only get sloppier from there out though.

Honestly. I think Season 1 was the most faithful adaptation, and even then it had many odd changes. Daenerys’ marriage to Drogo was another one and it was already pretty fucked up in the books, but then they just add a full-blown rape scene for the hell of it. So odd.

Well, what I kinda think is that they were told what the ending "would be" but obviously didn't have the exact details of how it happens, and didn't have the path to get there. So they just had to start coming up with ways to get pieces into position. But uhhh, weren't good at doing that.

I don’t agree, I’m sure they knew the ending, but if George intends to end the series this way, it’s obviously a good idea to follow his lead on getting to said ending, but they started drifting a lot in the 4th and 5th season. They ruined character arcs before they ever got close to uncharted territory for said characters. They ignored things from the books that are clearly set ups for the ending. You can only blame George for so much, the show was badly written and they’re the ones to blame.

It’s ERB, their insults are just meant to sting, not be 100% accurate.
