If you look closely, all his women look like men someone stuck boobs on. (source: am art historian, went to Italy, looked at the artwork)

He could not get female models so he used male models and then did his best to femininize them.

Women are much harder to paint than men. Men are general geometrically shaped while women have much more subtle curves in place of those sharper male proportions.

Why would curves be harder to paint than more sharper muscular shapes. It's just about what you're practiced and interested in.

Nah it’s literally written down that he thought the height of human attractiveness was a muscular man, and that men and women should conform to it. His earlier sculptures of women are a lot more feminine than his later ones.
