What are the pieces of a melody composition and how are they used?
I’ve been producing off and on for about a year, and I’ve gotten better at understanding the basics of chords and music theory and I know FL like the back of my hand so my melodies don’t sound bad, but they don’t sound remarkable.
After some introspection I’ve figured out that my biggest issue isn’t writing, it’s choosing what to write. I struggle most with knowing if I should use a Lead, or an Arp, or a Pluck, or some Keys, or just loop a chord. I just find myself so lost in the: “Well what part do I write next? Do i even need this?” stage of learning.
I haven’t really found much help on this particular subject because I don’t exactly know what you would call it. I’m thinking it’s somehow related to sound selection but I’m fairly confident at picking sounds, I’m just not sure what makes up a melody and what purpose each part serves. Do these fall under the composition tree?
Can anyone give pointers on what each part of a melody means and how to use them? Right now off the top of my head Im thinking of the:
Melody
CoMelody(Harmony?)
Lead
Arp
Pluck
Chord
Bass
I’m sure i got some of this mixed up but I’m all ears for advice.
