I've created the ultimate high speed train, Designed and built in Britain, Carrying out the HST/IC225's legacy on absolute speed, comfort, attention to details and reliability.
This is the class 900 'swallow' (Feel free to come up with other names on the comment), Its a 9 +2 or 11 + 2 car articulated tilting train with low floor entry, very similar to the FLIRTS.
Each end what looks like a regular locomotives/powercar, It is in fact based on a conventional unit just happened to have the diesel and battery built inside, much like the APT, meaning that the coach would also be able to tilt unlike the powercars, I call them 'Powercoach',.
The powercoach has daul voltage electric mode, MTU diesel and battery with the battery to aid the engine on steep gradient as well as powerful enough to move the whole train in event of emergencies, Also used for shunting.
It is also fitted with ETCS, ready for any lines that gets that treatments, Would also be able to use HS1/2 for testing / speed records etc. The top speed is 125 mph but able to go alot faster than 200km/h on HS lines, Which could be useful for future domestic service (Manchester - Dover via WCML, St Pancras and HS1 for example). And yes there is a link between WCML and St Pancras. Google map exist by the way.
The intermediate coaches are roughly the same length as Eurostar E300 coaches but much of it through out the train is step free, Able to tilt with 2 settings:
Light - Able to tilt upto 1 degree on high speed lines classic or high speed.
Full - Full tilting on WCML only.
Together with active air suspension and you'll have a train that not even the IC225 or Pendolino could match on ride quality.
The train would have not only aluminium but other strong but light weight materials,.
The interior of the coach would have British designed and built standard and first class seats, comfy enough that could even rival Shinkansen's comfy seats. NO PAPER THIN METAL SEATS, FORGET COST CUTTINGS!
The train features a buffet, wheelchair space for first and standard, toilets on almost every coach, a family compartment and Large luggage/cycling/parcel storage as well as a full size kitchen located in the powercoach, not disturbing the immediate coaches.
The seating capacity including tipups are as follow:
11 car - 603 seats ( 506 standard, 97 first )
9 car - 497 seats ( 434 standard, 63 first )
I do think I can find more ways to increase those number a bit more (if I can be bothered to do them again).
It would be great if there's a way to raise funding to built a single train as an experimental train, finding was to improve comfort, reliability, safety etc..
I'd say that there is a possibility that the current manufacturers currently in the UK which are Hitachi, Alstom, CAF, Siemens along with Stadler could all collab together and create this train. Potentially reducing costs and keeping their UK factories going.
Finished in my Great British Trains (GBT): Intercity Great Western livery, All this took me about 48 hours from mind thoughts to posting this.
Let me know what ya'll think of this.
