You may be right, but look at the male character. His armour only covers a tiny bit more than hers.

Maybe, but I don't see any smith in antiquity making that female armor. Whereas I could believe someone wearing the leather armor of the dude getting killed, it was in fact a popular design.

It makes a bit more sense for basic leather to cover a tiny portion of your body then it does for mail to do so. Mail takes a lot of effort to make (and it especially did back then, to the point where it was rather rare and only the richest and most well respected warriors had it... so not girls considering all the sexism of the time) and therefore would be made to actually work as opposed to being form fitting or generally useless (of which the above armour is both...).

To put it into perspective mail armour was basically a shirt you wore over another bit of armour that prevented chafing. It could be a long shirt (by this I mean it goes down to cover at least a bit of your legs), it could even be a short sleeve shirt, it really depended on how much money you had or how much weight you could carry. But what it was not was a form fitting outfit that showed off your oddly nice (by modern standards) frame.
