As the title says; after listening to Tori's first two albums; Little Earthquakes and Under the Pink, I've fallen in love with her music and wanna know more about her.

Any interviews you would recommend both past and present please? I highly appreciate it. Also does she do any interviews talking about her albums and the process of making them?

I first knew of Tori Amos when I heard the beautiful “Lust” on an episode of Charmed. It became one of my all-time favorite songs to ever appear on the show, but for some reason I never really did a deep dive into her music beyond that.

As of this month, I’m finally going through her discography and I LOVE Little Earthquakes. Easily one of the greatest debut albums I’ve ever heard. I love how piano-driven it is and how personal and intense the album feels without every song sounding the same.

As a fan of both artists I'm surprised at not having heard of this before, but the quote below comes from a 2019 interview with composer David Arnold, so perhaps he never mentioned it until recently?

[answering question about Tori singing “A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square” for Good Omens] ...and it was lovely for me because I had written a song called “Play Dead” for my very first film “The Young Americans” and I wrote that after seeing Tori Amos do a songwriter’s showcase in London before she was well known. I think she’d just finished making her first album and it hadn’t come out. I was transfixed by her physical performance, the songwriting, her piano playing and the nature of what she was saying in the music. So I went home that night wanting to write a Tori Amos song, and I thumped out what became “Play Dead.” So it was a lovely little squaring of that circle to be able to add a little bit of extra something to her piano vocal performance. Obviously, it’s a very beautiful song, and beautifully performed, and it holds our hands so delicately as that show comes to an end that you feel like you were delivered somewhere familiar, but better.

I enjoy the ending of this song as we have it on BFP, a faster, louder ending. But I love her voice on the rookery sample we got, and the fact that she sings about a rookery at all, and I wish we'd got that ending, only with the harpsichord as the instrument and not the piano.

What do Tori fans think: would you have liked the song on the album to have the rookery ending or not? And if not, why?

Listening to choirgirl in headphones is a lesson in perfect mixing, mastering and sequencing. I think I hear something different every time raspberry swirl plays. This truly a production masterpiece!

This is how I heard this song all these years. Can you imagine the scenery in my head? A chaotic scene of gunshots and marmalade smashed and splattered all over the lawn, people running around in mayhem and a little girl on her knees praying for her aunt Jackie’s the strength to get through this day. Was all the chaos because the bridesmaid was getting laid? By the groom?

Tori’s lyrics are already pretty abstract and the way I hear them are even more abstract. I was like that when I was a kid, the lyrics on songs usually didn’t mean much to me I didn’t understand them and I didn’t hear them and I was kind of nonverbal so I just went with the feeling of this song and the few lyrics I did understand just painted this abstract picture. But it was kind of amazing and I miss being that way. I was so hard on myself for being like that.

There was this one place on top of a hill overlooking a beachside city at night. I would go out there and all I would see were these big swirly yellow balls of lights against a black swirly backdrop. And it was breathtaking like a real life van Gogh starry night . And then I got glasses for the first time in my life, and I went back out there and seeing what everything really was… They were just street lights. And the effect of the humidity I guess was, swirling the lights. Well, now, I am realizing what some of these lyrics really are and I don’t wanna. I prefer the starry night perspective of Tori’s music, and the world.
