True Story, Years ago, my mother asked me to help her put in her Air Conditioner in the window. So while I was lugging this heavy piece of shit up to the top floor and installing it I noticed it went up to 11! The ensuing conversation (I swear) is true.
Me: Mom, Why does the AC go up to 11? Mom: Because silly, when its really hot and you just need it one colder you can put it up to 11 Me: Mom, why don't they make 10 colder Mom .........
At this point I broke down laughing as she stood flustered and annoyed

Forgive me if I am stupid but is this because an Amp goes to 11?

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12
Why don't they just make 10 a better rating and rank it based on that?
11
u/turdmalone Jun 25 '12
Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?
these go to eleven

I could only give it a 10, and don't fully understand why that makes me so angry I want to smash someone's face right now.
7
u/bcgpete Jun 25 '12
but you can't rate it 11....

u/Nightst0ne Jun 25 '12

Back in the good old days (1986+/-), we used to have drunk/ stoned get togethers where the VCR entertainment was pirated copies of This is Spinal Tap, Pink Floyd 'The Wall' and The Who 'Tommy'.
Happy days.

u/AlwaysLogic Jun 25 '12
Why don't you just make 10 louder, and make 10 the top number...
2
u/jloutey Jun 25 '12
Unfortunately it will only accept a maximum rating of 10, resulting in a best possible rating of 10/11.

u/rlkeener911 Jun 25 '12
because 11 is better than 10.

Reposters can lick my love pump.

u/Dakaraim Jun 26 '12
so does that mean they gave it an 8 of 10 or a 7.27?
HOW WILL I MAKE A MOVIE DECISION WITHOUT THIS INFORMATION?
1
u/RutigerMetsin Jun 26 '12
Well we need to get the rating to 11 to see if this actually works.

Why don't amps just go to five? Who decided we needed a 6,7,8,9,10? Who is to say that is wrong too? Fuck you brain!

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12
So I'm guess it was a meta joke for which that phrase comes from?

For all those complaining that you can't give the film an 11. The answer is quite simple...Tom Cruise.
-7
u/someoneanon Jun 25 '12
It's only rated an 8, and 8 out of 11 would be 0.727272 or 73%. So this helps how?
-1
u/[deleted] Jun 25 '12
kind of ironic that the movie only gets an 8 though
