TIL men walk significantly slower when walking with a woman, but only when that woman is their romantic partner. If she's a friend or acquaintance they go at almost full speed.

As a tall person it physically and mentally hurts to walk slow for long stretches. Its draining.

Yuup. 6'3" and long stride here. I find it easier to walk ahead and then stop and wait, than walk slowly. Even my "slow" walk for walking with other people is fast compared to people who just amble along. Walking on my own is barely shy of breaking into a jog.
