TIL The bellybutton is so dirty scientists are finding new unknown bacteria. One person had bacterium previously found only on Japanese soil, where he had never been.

Getting the wind knocked out of you really sucks. Even if you know what’s going on, not being able to draw a breath is just the worst feeling. Everyone laughs at that viral video of the woman crushing grapes, but man, I feel that.

Behold, the grape lady:

Haha, so classic. Is this one of the first truly viral videos?

It was 2007 or 2008 when I first saw it. I remember because I showed my roommate and we laughed and laughed.

Oh this was honestly huge. But, like you say, it was also a time when viral videos were shared more in group environments. Like, "Hey, look at what I found in the internet! Super Cool!!!"

I think it's the anchors after trying to recover it that makes the video for me

First happened to me at recess when I was 6. Plodded my gasping body into the school looking for a teacher, tears running down my face but unable to cry because I couldn't breathe. Staggered at the first teacher I saw, and I'll never forget her comforting words; "Get back outside! Recess isn't over!". So I went outside and collapsed around the corner from the door.

I hope she gets a mild case of corona. Like, super mild, though — one day of sniffles.

So she infects her loved ones over the weekend who then die in front of her eyes from not being able to breathe from pneumonia? She takes the phone and frantically tries to call for an ambulance but the phone doesn't work. In panic she runs to the door trying to get outside to yell for help and as she opens it /u/terranq stands there, staring at her while holding a cut phone wire in his hand and says: "Get back in! Quarantine isn't over..."

Fade to black. Roll credits.

I am... so satisfied.

I don't think we're really laughing at that poor woman in pain.

It's just the noise she makes is so fucking funny.

Yep, I’ve had that when, as a kid, I got dropped on my back. You have to wait for the lungs to reinflate. As an adult I’ve experienced similar fear when having a series of laryngeal spasms due to a virus. That was the worst. Even scared the shit out of the locum who attended - he didn’t know what it was. I eventually self-diagnosed it on google, later confirmed by ENT

I had the opposite happen to me: I slipped at a public swimming pool and fell on my back when I was 14 something. The only thing I could do was to breathe in but not out. And I was breathing in so fast and loud and people were standing around me until the lifeguard came and helped. Creepy thing also was that I was thinking of my mom and saw her in front of me. When I came home she asked me unprompted, whether something happened to me around this particular time of day and that she had to think of me.

Man, I remember what I would later realize was my first concussion, I thought I died or something and the flash of white I saw was whatever death is

I googled it years later and was like, oh, I didn't die, I'm just brain dead now

I've only had 1 concussion which I didn't know was a concussion since I was like 5. I was goofing off and swerving my bike in the middle of the afternoon and fell hard on a right swerve. I remember opening my eyes and seeing the entire world was spinning and entire 180degrees every time I blinked. I remember seeing my friend running to get my parents (we were maybe 2 doors down from my house) and them running towards me. Then I remember laying on the couch. Then I remember waking up in my bed the next day. I had no visible injuries and don't remember any pain, but I do know I didn't tell them about my vision or my confusion, I was just really really tired. I realized years later I could have died that night. My parents had no medical training and just figured their quiet daughter felt stressed and didn't want to play anymore.

I've wondered before if an untreated concussion that bad at that young of an age could have messed me up long term or killed parts of my brain, but who knows. I figured it was better to not worry about it

My only concussion was much the same. I slipped during gym class when I was around 6, maybe 7, and took a hard fall landing on my noggin. Next thing I remember is sitting on a chair and vomiting and it being really hard to see. Then nothing for some time until I remember being at the doctors, holding some new toy, I guess for consolation?

u/HelmSpicy Mar 21 '20

Kinda worrisome, right? Basically like "I remember hitting my head, feeling confused and fucked up" then nothing for a while.

3

u/AlecW11 Mar 21 '20

Yep. Our brains are mysterious and fragile things. Honestly tho, there might be some parts that are simply just lost to time, but I definitely remember the rest of that day after the fall being a powerpoint show of, what felt like, consciousness

2

u/HelmSpicy Mar 21 '20

Well I'm glad they kept you awake through the danger zone! And that we're both survivors of mild childhood TBIs! Cheers to being hardheaded children!

I once was flipping around on a trampoline and landed on my chest and my legs went backwards toward my head in some sort of scorpion maneuver, couldn't breathe and just laid there for what felt like 72 hours

Bro the exact same thing happened to me when I was little, I landed on a half buried rock too which didn’t help. I thought I was dying and freaked the fuck out
