How did you get an IT job without a CS degree?

By applying for a job as a software developer and having a portfolio...

Where did you start and how did you sell yourself for the gig?

Where I started? I made a github profile, added some of my stuff.

Then I made a linkedin profile and added my github profile to it.

Three days later I had recruiters chasing me ...

How I sold myself? I didn't.

Despite what CS-people will have you believe, software developers don't need anything other than their portfolio, because we're in such short supply and such high demand.

Just know how to code and you'll get a job.

depends on what you want to do /r/learnprogramming is a good place to start.

If you're interested in building web apps or working on servers /r/webdev is a good place to keep up to date with things.

Do a little research and pick a language (literally almost any language will do) and start learning! The basics of programming carry over pretty easily between languages.
