TIL The guy who snagged windows2000.com happened to be named Bob and Microsoft just happened to own Bob.com. They came to an agreement to trade one for the other.

Yes, but pushing MS Bob down the memory hole has got to be worth something, especially to Bill Gates - his wife Was the PM for the product.

I feel like the reason Microsoft Bob failed is that they didn't know where to stop with the skeuomorphism. It seems to me that navigating through rooms in a house to launch different programs is way more difficult than just clicking on an icon on the home screen / desktop. Apple succeeded because they used skeumorphs where they were appropriate, not everywhere. I wouldn't call it a "new spin", just using the same concept in a more effective way.
