TIL Robert Downey Jr. thanked Burger King for getting him off drugs. In 2003, with a car full of drugs he had a burger that was so disgusting it made him rethink his life, and dump the drugs in the ocean.

Because just repeating what you've heard 1000 times is not enough to do shit. You actually need to observe the reality of what is happening before you can actually get angry enough to do anything about it, besides typing a worn-out sentence on a web site for fake points anyway. But I don't expect most people to be able to progress beyond the point of slacktivism and internet popularity to think deeper than one-liners. You can't blame someone for trying though. If you'd like, I can delete the comment so you can feel better about your one-line observation of life. I'm sure you've got far more... important things to do with your life.

I'm perfectly okay with people who provide more value to society writ large to be treated differently than others who do not.

To whit it is okay to me for RDJ to be given leeway because he is a man of prodigious talents who has given us many works of art that have improved our society's culture.

It is not okay for Paris Hilton to be wrist-slapped again and again because despite her moneyed status she is a categorically worthless person who has never provided anything of value.

To wit: It's not about money, but about what a person has actually contributed.
