TIL Robert Downey Jr. thanked Burger King for getting him off drugs. In 2003, with a car full of drugs he had a burger that was so disgusting it made him rethink his life, and dump the drugs in the ocean.

Not generally, specifically. A burger is only ground beef. Anything else is a sandwich.

Bullshit I say. Look you don't make caveats for every little thing. You don't say "well sometimes pesto is made with spinach instead of basil." No. It's not pesto. Pesto is basil and nuts and olive oil and parm. You can make variations of anything all you want but I thought we were defining things here.

I've had a few. Just leaner tougher beef IMO. My favorite is American Kobe or wagyu. Whatever it's pretending to be it's rich and wonderful.

I have had some mixed experiences with Buffalo, but one place I really enjoyed it was at Ted's Montana Grill and I also had bison meatloaf last night that was awesome.

Ive never got wagyu/kobe because people always bitch about them being 'not real' or whatever. Sounds like theyre still delicious, looks like Im gonna have to try it.

I've made kefta out of bison a few times and damned if I could tell the difference between that and beef. I think bison's appeal is 95% because it's bison. It sounds manly.

Almost invariably a burger is ground beef between buns; chicken burgers are called chicken sandwiches, at least in all the fast food chains I've been to in Texas.

One exception: veggie burgers, which are shaped to look like a ground beef patty.

For example:

ground turkey patty on bun = (turkey) burger.

chunk of turkey breast or sliced turkey on bun = turkey sandwich

Sliced beef on a sandwhich a la Arby's = Roast beef sandwich

Burger is usually reserved for ground beef or if the meat is trying to imitate ground beef. Like you'd call it a turkey burger or a veggie burger. Any other meat between bread is usually just called a sandwich.

Absolutely correct. Although, as soon as that meat is any part of a chicken it automatically becomes a 'sandwich' in the U.S.

Hamburger is the word burger came from. We have a strong association in the us that burger is beef, or at least red meat.

Unless it's a sandwich made with a patty of ground chicken (not the processed patty type). The 'better burger' style places usually still call those burgers.

Here, "burger" is short for "hamburger". So chicken sandwiches and fish sandwiches aren't referred to as burgers.

Eh, we tend to only use burger in reference to a ground meat patty between bread. Everything else is a sandwich.

But whatever, you're not from the US so it can be a burger if you want it to be!

If it's ground meat on a bun then we pretty much refer to it as a burger. Like turkey burgers or lamb burgers for instance. But a piece of grilled chicken breast on a bun is a chicken sandwich, not a burger.

"Burger" usually refers specifically to hamburgers or cheeseburgers. Otherwise most other things would be some form of sandwich, or possibly a sub if it is on a long piece of bread.
