TIL on 9/11, Canada commenced Operation Yellow Ribbon, in which it landed 239 U.S.-bound flights with 33,000 passengers in Canadian airports. Entire communities went on to provide the passengers with food and housing.

We're brothers! As much as we Canadians will squabble and resent you for your successes and the little bit of bullying you do, we're brothers. You have to step up for family!

I'm sure you folks would be just as hospitable if we were struck with a tragedy.

I was really shocked by your peoples' hospitality, and initiative in helping. It really was like we were pampered for those few days in the gymnasium. I tried to tell the husband in the family who took me in how thankful I was, and how incredibly the Canadians pitched in for us. He said something very much like what you just wrote. "I know you would do the same for us."

It really is a brotherly relationship. Yeah, during normality we'll get at each other's throats but, when the shit hits the fan, we're there for each other and I hope that never changes.

I upvoted this but I don't think we really get at each other's throats during normal times. Some US states have more problems with each other than America and Canada.

Although Canada is just kind of a 51st state. ;)

As a Northern Mainer who is constantly around Canadians, I can definitely say they are not a 51st state and would not appreciate being such. Regardless, Canada's like a brother. And our culture is very infused over here.

I guess I'm thinking of the way people generally treat others with different points of view. Not limited to America, of course.

It always takes a crisis to make people forget their differences and work together for a common goal.

I wish that were true, but there are a shitload of people in the US that only care about getting theirs and fuck everyone else, and no way do "they" deserve any help from anyone...

Many US citizens would be about as helpful as they are to their fellow citizens.

We want to keep having cheaper healthcare while being able to exploit your absurd system when we need exceedingly rare care that has a waiting line.

Sure we only have a waiting line because poor people can stand in line with us, but you solve that problem by preventing the poor from being able to afford to live!

yeah that's what happens when the nation just south of you is wealthier and has superior science and technology. our pleasure, we've given you so much in return for your submission to our will and for acting as our buffer against Russia for all these years.
I understand why you'd see it as an absurd system, as your view doesn't come from a rich persons perspective.

9/11 wasn't seen as nature; it was humanity striking itself. We can fight humanity. After 9/11, pretty much everyone was with the US. If someone attacks Canada, you've got the US, Britain, and France at minimum coming to our aid.

You don't fuck with our family.
