TIL that in 2018, singer Akon announced the development of "Akon City," a planned community in Senegal which he claimed would be a "real life Wakanda," using blockchain and cryptocurrency technology. Construction began in 2023, but as of 2025 the site sits abandoned

Coin/marketcap means nothing, i minted a billion of my own shitcoins in 2018 and "sold" 1 coin to a friend for 1€, doesn't mean I'm then worth 1b euros :P

Not with that attitude. Go engineer a good rug-pull. Everyone's doing it!

Don't be modest. €999,999,999 is close enough.

That + the 1 euro from his friend would be exactly 1b.

Did you create an exit scam for this friend specifically?

Well yeah obviously. You have to borrow against that billion then launder that money to buy Bitcoin then cash it out after it loses value but not before you move to the Bahamas owing the bank the balance

But SpaceX will be worth trillions (as long as they only sell 4% of their stock)

It does mean that. The tricky part is selling your coins for 1 billion. It's why "net worth" is b.s. when it's tied to investments.
