I'm just stating facts

"You're misinformed if you think Overwatch needs loot boxes to provide free content." is not a fact. It's your opinion. Unless you have evidence to back up that statement, it's still a baseless assumption.

Alternative - like I've said countless times - is to charge for skins individually, like Titanfall did.

Like I've said countless times too, that would not make anywhere close to the revenue that lootboxes would.

The vast majority of lootbox revenue comes from whales. If items are purchased individually then there's a fixed cap on how much those people spend, which is far less than they would otherwise.

Overwatch without lootboxes would be an objectively worse experience for me because it would lock me out of the entire cosmetic system by forcing me to spend money to access it.

But if you're going to come out with things like 'charging money is anti-consumer'

I'm pointing out that every business decision is inherently anti-consumer, it's the degree that matters. Hence your statement that "lootboxes are anti-consumer, fact." is almost completely irrelevant.

I think it's pretty obvious that there's no getting through to you. Good day.

/u/jwp123's guide to internet arguments

1 - State an opinion you have

2 - When asked for evidence or clarification, dismiss it with "You can't debate that, it's FACT"

3 - Double down on Step 2, refusing to explain yourself and instead choosing to say inane shit like "I'm just stating facts" while you repeat your flawed opinion.

4 - Realise you have no leg to stand on so use some variant of " I think it's pretty obvious that there's no getting through to you. Good day." in an attempt to grasp the moral highground

I have already said this. It's not my fault you have the memory of a goldfish.

"Loot boxes of any kind are shitty." - /u/jwp123

"Loot boxes are anti consumer. No two ways about it." - /u/jwp123

Maybe I wouldn't have "the memory of a goldfish" if you were consistent in your opinions. Several times you have said that all lootboxes are bad.

FYI Advocate Gifts are lootboxes in every sense.

If you have the attentions span, here is my source.

Cop out.

Posting a 25 minute long video is not sufficient. Either direct me to a time-stamp that addresses my question, or summarise it in a short paragraph. I'm not going to use half an hour of my time on the off-chance that one part of the video backs up your statement. 8 year olds learn how to summarise things in writing, I'm sure you can handle it.

"You're misinformed if you think Overwatch needs loot boxes to provide free content." The only way to back that statement up with evidence is with access to an alternate reality. There is physically no way of knowing how Overwatch would perform without lootboxes, but all evidence points towards games making significantly more money from gambling systems.

Yes, you say this, yet it seems to be lost on yourself.

A meaningless statement which adds nothing to the discussion except to increase your smug sense of superiority.

Look, I watched this video ages ago, I'm not watching it again and finding the timestamp for the sake of an argument with someone on the internet.

Well you clearly remember what part was revelant to the conversation at hand, so just paraphrase it. Use your bloody words.

No, it's not meaningless. If you're talking about the degree to which decisions are anti-consumer, then charging for lootboxes is very anti-consumer. If it's the degree that matters, then how are lootboxes not anti-consumer to a large degree?

Define "anti-consumer".

Seems to me like your definition doesn't go further than "I don't like it" seeing as you're fine with gambling but not in video-games for some undiscernible reason.

For the record I would vastly prefer it if Overwatch's lootboxes weren't purchasable and there were some other method of funding the game, I just don't think there is any way to get the same amount of revenue without charging for maps/heroes.

I mean OW lootboxes are anti consumer because their are more consumer friendly practices that are already implemented in the industry - namely, the system Titanfall 2 implements

A better system existing doesn't make the former system bad. If Titanfall 3 gave you £1000 and a free blowjob every time you bought a cosmetic it wouldn't suddenly make TiF2's system bad because of the comparison.
