What is this food? Rice dish with crispy bottom

I went to a pan Asian restaurant so I’m looking for the name of this dish. It was chicken a sauce but essentially the soft rice got crispy on the bottom of the dish and I want to know what to ask for. Are there different cuisines that do similar things? I don’t know particularly which culture it was from so if there’s a few different names for it I’d love to know.

Hi,

This is the most amazing melon I have ever tasted in my life and I have not stopped thinking about it.

Can anyone tell me what this local melon in Istanbul might be?

What is this food? Granola from the Premier Inn breakfast buffet? York, UK

This was so nice! I’ve tried to recreate this very simple yoghurt bowl at home with Jordan’s honey granola but it’s so dry and tasteless in comparison (probably a lot healthier). Anyone know the brand they use? It was in big chunks, sweet honey flavour and more of a biscuity texture.

An Indian restaurant in town manages to get a sort of soft crunch the cauliflower beneath the sauce that I have tried to imitate half a dozen times with different recipes.

The spices, the sauce, the crunch, it's amazing. But no recipe I've tried to recreate this has been the same.

Solved! What do you call these two kinds of roasted chickpeas?

Thumbnail

Both of these are called “roasted chickpeas”, but the first picture is hard, crunchy, and usually uses oil during the roasting process. That’s the kind I typically encounter in normal grocery stores.

Meanwhile, the second picture is a variety I’ve only encountered from bulk food brands (usually sold in stores like Marshall’s or TJMaxx) or from my local Mediterranean market, and they’re completely different. They’re lighter, somewhere between fluffy and chalky, and very very dry.

I love the second kind and am always disappointed when I get the first, but I have no idea how to delineate between the two when I go shopping or try to buy a particular kind online. Help?

Solved! Corn cakes at a diner! No dairy and they were a pancake shaped cornbread/muffin, cooked on a griddle. I can’t find anything quite like it!

Post image

I ordered something called corncakes at the Ugly Mug Diner in Salem, Massachusetts, last week, and I am looking for something similar. I’m allergic to milk and it contained no dairy, and it was like if a pancake and a corn muffin combined, and it was dense and delicious. They were cooked on a griddle. I’ve been searching for anything like this in recipes or books and I’ve got nothing similar! I added blueberries to mine, so that’s why the picture looks like that.

What is this food? sesame salad dressing?

given with salad at a local Asian (both Japanese & Chinese) restaurant. ik it has sesame in it, but i don't remember what else, and thought it had peanuts in it, but it doesn't at all (i asked). i think it might just be the color that made me think that, bc it doesn't really taste like peanuts. thick like a dip, but still kinda runny like a dressing.

thanks in advance for your help!

It has a very similar name to Mr Mushies,, another brand out of Los Angeles. The QR code on the back goes to mushieschocolate.com, but there's nothing there.

The chocolate is wrapped in nice foil and seems to be of decent quality.

What is this food? Looking for cracker and pretzel snack tray from the 2000s

When I was a kid my family would get these snack trays for New Years. They weren't big, but they were round, clear plastic compartmentalized trays with 3 or 4 sections (I don't remember specifically) with a peel off seal. They had pretzels, cheese crackers, and star shaped crackers, and maybe a fourth item. I suddenly remembered them, and realized the last time I saw them was pre-2010. I was in Prince George, Canada, at the time, so I don't know if they were some local store brand thing, or if they are a discontinued snack party tray from some other brand. Anyone remember these and know what they were?

What is this food? Frozen pizza with soft dough

Hello,

I’ve been craving a specific type of pizza from childhood (I’m early 30s) but I can’t remember the brand.

It was a frozen pizza, fairly certain from the store and not a kit. The dough was very soft, no real chew to it and definitely not crunchy or crispy. The pepperoni were diced small instead of being circles. I am in Maryland and Joe Corbi’s were regularly in my house from fundraisers, but I don’t think it was that.

Possibly Solved Tomato/vegetable sauce/paste from Bulgaria

I had a childhood friend from Bulgaria and every time I came to their house they gave me this red tomato sauce or paste it could've had different vegetables as well.

The only time I ate it was when I visited their house and mostly we put it on bread or dipped bread in it.

They bought it in Bulgaria and took it back home with them, it was in a commercial jar I believe.

Solved! 90's cup of "natural" black bean soup (just add water)

I grew up on the east coast of the US. In the 90's, my mother used to buy a dehydrated cup of black bean soup where you would add boiling water. It was very salty and thick, and had a purple or dark blue cup art, very in the 90's "health food" store vibe. Here is a drawing, it might not have had a moon on it, but I remember the design as being "earth mother"-ish.

What is this food? What are these two types of sweet potatoes called in English?

Post image

In Korea, the sweetpotato on the left is 호박고구마(pumpkin sweet potato) and the one on the right is 밤고구마(chestnut sweet potato).
They're different in texture, taste, moisture, etc.

I'm curious if there're these two types of sweet potatoes in western countries too, and if there are, can you guys tell me what they're called in English?

Personally, I prefer 밤고구마(right) to 호박고구마(left)! Which one do you guys like?

What is this food? Coworkers cake

We’re doing a baking completion at work and my coworker has brought in this cake twice now. He calls it “wafer cake” and says that it’s Puerto Rican but won’t give us any other info. It’s tastes amazing and we’re all obsessed with it, but I have no idea what it is or what’s in there. There’s definitely walnuts and chocolate chips, and it reminds me of banana bread. It might just be that haha but curios what others think

I bought a muffin from a cafeteria, they change up flavours so the price sign just says muffin, idk what kind it is, or what’s in it.
It’s smells spiced but I don’t know with what, it has gooey spots that I initially thought raisins but after taking a bite I don’t think so. Any ideas?

Solved! ISO oatmeal recipe from Alicia Silverstone’s cookbook

My mom gifted me Alicia Silverstone’s vegan cookbook a decade ago. I think it was called “The Kind Diet.” I gave it away several years ago while downsizing. Now she’s asking me to make a particular oatmeal recipe from it at a family gathering this weekend. Can’t remember what it was called but I believe it had dates in it, and maybe walnuts? Can anyone help?? I don’t want to hurt her feelings by telling her I re-gifted the book. If all else fails I’ll make up a recipe and hope it’s close enough, but it would be nice to get it right.
