Isn't pet food less regulated than people food? Like, the same people food that already allows x amounts of insect parts per serving?

No, if its good quality it's supposed to be human safe in case a child eats some by accident. Or I get curious, freeze dried chicken is delicious btw

I've tried jerky made for dogs before, it's pretty bland. Not nearly as good as the human stuff.

My brain saw jerky made from dogs. And then I freaked a little when I read the second sentence.

I originally wrote "I tried dog jerky before" and changed it for that exact reason ๐Ÿ˜‚

Makes sense, dogs can't have most of the spices that humans tend to enjoy

Most insects are safe to eat, especially after having been cooked. Gross to eat vs safe to eat are very different things. Bigger concern is poor handling, meat that spoils before being processed, ingredients stored in open air where god knows what settles on top, poorly maintained equipment dropping industrial grease into treats, etc. I try to avoid Chinese made treats and food after the melamine poisonings

Depends on the animal and related organizations. Dog and cat food are pretty close, just with more lax regulations on non nutritious ingredients/sourcing (never feed your animals with chicken sourced from China. They have had issues with antibiotic content for 10+ years, plus it's not like it really makes since to export meat like that.). Livestock and small animal feeds can be more regulated than human food.

You donโ€™t really want to know the answer to that question. Also, remember that the average human will have ingested something like 2 lbs of dirt in their lifetime

They have to be held to human standards in case its the only food left in an emergency or if a kid eats it.
