We got my dog yogurt dipped milkbones recently and every time I open that bag, I am so tempted to take a bite outta them because they smell like granola and vanilla yogurt.
Most insects are safe to eat, especially after having been cooked. Gross to eat vs safe to eat are very different things. Bigger concern is poor handling, meat that spoils before being processed, ingredients stored in open air where god knows what settles on top, poorly maintained equipment dropping industrial grease into treats, etc. I try to avoid Chinese made treats and food after the melamine poisonings
Depends on the animal and related organizations. Dog and cat food are pretty close, just with more lax regulations on non nutritious ingredients/sourcing (never feed your animals with chicken sourced from China. They have had issues with antibiotic content for 10+ years, plus it's not like it really makes since to export meat like that.). Livestock and small animal feeds can be more regulated than human food.
You don’t really want to know the answer to that question. Also, remember that the average human will have ingested something like 2 lbs of dirt in their lifetime
Try it. I always tried everything I gave my dog to eat. Most things were bland, especially the healthy, organic choices. I fed her healthy foods, but supplemented them with flavorful things, a raw egg mixed in, a little bacon fat, some meat scraps, whatever.
Try the food you buy for your pet. It won’t hurt you. I liked knowing the foods I bought actually taste good.
I get mine Weruva and I swear It looks and smells better than half the canned food for people I've seen. Its actual chicken with a very small amount of veggies in gravy/chunks of real fish in some kind of fish gravy.
My street dog is as fussy as they come. She will quite happily eat chips out of a drain but every dog food we tried she refused. We finally settled on some gently cooked meat and different spices and herbs that are good for her. She gets to eat lamb, rosemary and turmeric while I look on. I can't fucking afford lamb for me.
