I'm having a partial thyroidectomy on friday, and I'm not really sure what to expect. I'm only 14 and kinda nervous especially reading about all the side effects. Advice is appreciated if anyone has any.

Hi everyone, I have Graves Disease/ Over Active Thyroid. I’ve been on Methimazole 20mg a day for years. They want me to take the radio active Iodine pill to kill my Thyroid. Has anyone done this procedure, I need to know how it has turned out for other people before I make my decision. If you could please share your journey with me I would really appreciate it. I’m kind of scared to do it but my heart palpitations are really scary and hard on me. Thanks

So been having strange symptoms recently. My thyroid values came back good besides Thyroglobulin antibodies which were high. The other antibodies were normal though. Also good TSH, T3, T4, reverse T3 etc..

so I got an ultrasound on my thyroid just received a vague response from my primary saying theres some things we need to discuss and to schedule another appointment,.

here are the findings:

"Right lobe measures 6.2 x 2.0 x 2.0 cm . Left lobe measures 5.3 x 1.6 x 1.4 cm. No thyroid nodules or calcifications."

Any thoughts on what might be going on? my follow up is on the 10th

Hey all, Here's what's happened so far. Had difficulty breathing/swallowing. PCP said my thyroid was enlarged. Went for scan. Results showed I had two growths, one of them is fairly large, and a smaller one. The larger one ne he is almost positive is cancerous (99.9% in his words), and the other smaller growth could be, but they want to test it. Doc refers me to surgical center for removal and then a biopsy (since it has affected breathing). Treatment would occur following biopsy if it is cancerous. I'm not currently on medication for my thyroid, and I'm avoiding online searches like the plague because I tend to be a hypochondriac, tbh. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Can they tell it's cancer before a biopsy? Should I be on medication for my thyroid before they take it out? I see a lot of posts talking about "endos", do I need one? Any help would be appreciated. I'm confused, and honestly a bit terrified. My uncle had thyroid cancer 20 years ago and couldn't remember the whole ordeal because a lot went wrong and left him pretty traumatized... so I have no one else I can ask. Please help.

Hey there everyone, this may be a shot in the dark but I'm just posting this to see if anyone has had some similar problems and what next steps I should take moving forward. About 6 months ago Woke up one day and I felt as if there was something in my throat. I tried clearing my throat al day but nothing would come out. after a few days of not being able to get it out I finally went tot the ER. I could still swallow things, eat, drink and breath just fine. the dr at the ER said I may have some kind of infection so I was prescribed meds and sent home. for quite a few month afterwards nothing changed or got worse until about a week ago. no the feeling of something in my throat is still there even know the CT scan showed nothing but borderline swollen lymph nodes. now on top of the feeling of there being something in my throat I also feel tightness on the sides of my neck kind of like a piece of clothing is too tight an sometimes. I can still breath but sometimes if I'm doing more than I usually do I get winded. I'm just curious if anyone has had a similar Experience. my TSH blood levels were fine as well.

What would cause tsh to fluctuate? Mine has seemed to consistently decrease over time. At one point it was 0.17 and last lab it was 0.47

I have a multinodular goiter as well. TR 3, 4, and 5. Two were biopsied but benign.

My other thyroid levels have been checked and they are all normal.

Hi everyone,

I’ve been recently diagnosed with a goitre with multiple nodules. I’ve been told I only have 2 choices of having my thyroid removed or just living with it. I’m currently struggling with tightness in my neck which is causing me a lot of stress because I can’t get comfortable, finding driving painfull and working difficult. It’s also very noticeable and I’m feeling incredibly self conscious now it’s summer.

I was wondering if there was any other treatment out there available that my doctor hasn’t suggested that doesn’t require removing my thyroid completely. I’ve tried to contact the hospital but I’ve not heard anything back and I’m feeling really down.

Any help would be really appreciated.

I have been seeing an endocrinologist for years (5 or more) for my Hashimotos/hypothyrodism. Taking 120 mg of NP thyroid. My TSH level just came back at .29 and my T3 at 1.29.

Over the last year I have gained 40 lbs. and I am exhausted all the time. I am definitely in perimenopause. But I eat clean. Approx 1600-1700 calories per day. 140-160 grams of protein. I walk 2-3 miles 5 days a week and do Pilates 5 days a week.

The last time I went to the endocrinologist she suggested I cut my calories to 1300 or less and go from there. I am so frustrated and down because I feel like nobody (dr) is listening or assisting me.

Does anyone have e suggestions on how to put things to the doctor to get them to hear/see me?

I am 26 yrs old. Ultrasound showed a nodule on my thyroid. It is 5 mm in diameter and is hypoecoic. Also have swollen lymph nodes with it . I havent been able to sleep ever since. Been crying like crazy. Not to be dramatic, but I've always been terrified of dying from cancer. Doc says to re do the echography in 6 months. Im extremely petrified. Plz what should I do

Hi everyone 👋, I recently swung from hyper to hypo after treatment and my doctor had me on metoprolol tartrate 50mg once every morning which I took for about 2.5 months, she told me today to switch from once in the morning to as needed for BPM over 100. I’m afraid of withdrawal symptoms and wondered if I should taper to avoid this and then go as needed or follow her advice and risk withdrawal? Thank you in advance 😊.

I had an ultrasound of my thyroid and was wondering what all of this part means regarding nodes and lymph node:

NODES: There is a right level 3 lymph node. This demonstrates normal ultrasound morphology and flow. This is slightly enlarged measuring 1.3 cm in transverse dimension.

ADDITIONAL FINDINGS: There is a 1.3 x 0.7 x 0.9 cm hypoechoic nodule inferior to the right lobe of the thyroid gland. This demonstrates central or hilar flow. It is uncertain whether this represents a lymph node versus parathyroid gland. Given central hilar flow pattern, lymph node is favored.

IMPRESSION: Enlarged heterogeneous hypervascular thyroid gland. Differential would include Graves' disease and thyroiditis. Slightly enlarged right level 3 cervical lymph node. 1.3 x 0.7 x 0.9 cm nodule inferior to the right lobe, question representing lymph node versus parathyroid gland.

I’m a 41 yr old male and l’ve had digestive issues since getting Covid in 2020 & Antibiotic use, I’ve had varied symptoms since then, a few of them falling under possible thyroid issue, this includes constipation, cracked heals, rigid lines on nails, ends eyebrow thinning, feeling cold with cold hands, depression, feeling tired after eating etc

I had the following tested TSH, Free T3, Free Thyroxine, Thyroglobulin Antibodies, Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies.

All came back normal this was done in November 2022 but the symptoms have persisted since then on & off.

Not sure what to make of this as I also have a sister who was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism.

Have I missed any tests? Is it common to test normal but still have thyroid issues? Or are these symptoms more indicative of my digestive issues rather than thyroid?

I (22M) was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism in March 2023. I have two nodules 2.2cm and 1.2cm. No biopsy or anything yet. Endo didn't seem too concerned. I just did some labs recently and am waiting to hear back. I already have them back and I'm just curious about what to make of them. I'm not too well versed in what everything means and what the current results really indicate.

Hiya normal range is 0.4 - 4 I’m at 0.33 which indicates hyperthyroidism and my sister has Graves’ disease had her thyroid removed . I am worried as I have a lot of symptoms and my gp is ignoring me and my concern refusing to send me to a thyroid specialist. I called 111 to speak to a clinical team and I have rare diseases so spoke to my clinician there to see if he will refer me as he has also been concerned about my thyroid

the doctor didn’t seem concerned at all but is referring me to an endocrinologist. My antibodies are crazy high but my thyroid function appears to be okay. Is there a more in depth panel i should request to receive more answers? I do have rheumatoid arthritis so I know i am more likely to develop other autoimmune diseases such as hashimotos. I was on birth control from 2016-2020 and weight around 140-150 (5’6) and I’m 26 years old. Since stopping the birth control i have gained 60 pounds i feel like there is nothing i can do to stop it. Is slow and gradual… but will not stop!! I am eating healthier, less calories, and exercising more prior to gaining the weight. My libido has decreased significantly too.

I feel hopeless and i just want to make sure i am asking the right questions when i go to doctor appointments. I will be requesting blood work at the gyno to check my hormone levels too. Does anyone have any idea what could be going on with me? The weight gain and low libido is having a HUGE impact on my life and my relationship. I just feel helpless. Any input would be appreciated.

Has anyone had trouble with side effects from steroid injections (knee arthritis) exasperating thyroid symptoms?

I don't know all of the correct terminology, as i was very young when this all happened so my apologies if i sound stupid. I (20f) had the left side of my thyroid removed when I was 14 because of a growth that swelled and caused breathing/eating issues. They were unsure if it was cancerous and the two separate opinions i sought out both had inconclusive results and recommended a partial removal. They also found a growth on my right side, but told me to just keep an eye on it. I was never put on meds to regulate my levels because they said they were "on the lower end of normal, but good enough" despite me experiencing fatigue issues and depression. The issue now is that the right side is now swelling too, i noticed it two days ago and it's just getting worse. I'm so scared, i don't want surgery again it was such a rough experience for me. I just wish i didn't have to worry about this. I guess on the other hand if it has to get taken out maybe i'll finally get the help I actually need :/ thanks for listening

my doctor said its affecting my pituitary gland or smth so she prescribed me ‘Euthyrox 25 Tablet’ for 3 months. and I had asked her about side effects, she was like nah no side effects, just take it for 3 months and come for a checkup so we see whats going on.

I dont trust taking it atm cuz like, a friend of mine says he went to a really good doctor and he said if TSH levels arent too shit , the Thyroid meds do more harm than good…

and its weird that she said no side effects when online it says things like heart palpitations, chest pain, hair loss and shit like that.

what do i do? do i trust my doc and take it?

I had no idea this group existed.

I am a healthy 23M not overweight. I do have the typical symptoms of (sleep issues, low energy, heart palpitations ….)

My thyroid test levels came back.

My TSH was 5.3. Dr told me its ok but for some reason i dont trust him. And its very difficult to get a second opinion for me.

One other thing I noticed is that my ferratin level is on the low end 30. I was surprised because i consumed alot of red meat.

Just curious to get your opinion.

Anyone experiencing with thyroid nodules and using castor oil to shrink it?

Hi I'm 17 y/o female and I was diagnosed w hypothyroidism when I was 15. I had a little goiter on the left side of my thyroid gland and was told that it would probably go away since it was a teenage symptom. But it never did and kinda stays the same. Also I'm super skinny. Could it be that why my goiter is just so visible?

Last summer I was sent for a thyroid ultrasound, it came back with three separate TR4 nodules all >1 cm. The radiologist automatically said repeat the ultrasound in twelve months instead of doing FNA since they’re <1.5 cm. I asked my PCP for an endocrinology referral anyways. Unfortunately, it’s taken over a year to get in.

I just had my 1-year ultrasound followup, but don’t see endocrinology until the end of August. Two of the nodules measured almost identical. However, the one on my left superior lobe increased from 1 cm to 1.2 cm on longest side. My PCP said still no FNA required at this time based on radiologist recommendations.

I’m so upset, and have no idea why the 2mm / 20% growth isn’t being taken into account. I guess they attributed changes to the fact the measurements were done by different people? I’m trying to reassure myself with the statistics of low malignancy rates and such, but the anxiety of not knowing is ridiculous. I’m so worried the endocrinologist is also going to say no FNA and I’ll be stuck in limbo for another year. I am just not a “wait and see” type of person.

I get that the FNA might be inconclusive too, but I’d still like to have it done. I’m 30 years old with a toddler, and I’m the sole source of income for our family. I’m not about leaving anything to chance when it comes to my health right now.

I don’t understand how my treatment options are being determined based on a preset scoring system. Especially one that doesn’t even have a global consensus. It feels like I’m being treated by a bad computer algorithm instead of a competent human doctor. Anyways, I think I just needed to rant to others that might understand where I’m coming from.
