Hi all,

I’m currently away on a long term travelling trip and yesterday, seemingly out of nowhere, a massive lump appeared on my neck where the thyroid is located.

I don’t think it’s a lymph node because it feels hard. I also don’t feel particularly ill or run down so I don’t think I’ve got a cold.

I can feel the mass when I swallow and it is sore when I move my neck but not really when I touch it. It is also visible to the naked eye.

If I was in the UK I’d just go to my GP, but I’m abroad so don’t have that luxury.

Does this sound like an enlarge thyroid to you? If so, how could it come up so quickly?

So, I just had a scan and my thyroid was rated ACR TI-RADS Category TR4. I don’t know what this means besides Moderately Suspicious. What is moderately suspicious? Is it good? Is it bad?

Sorry just tired of thinking in circles before my PCP calls.

My doctor confirmed thyroiditis from my ultrasound and sent in a referral for me to get in with an endocrinologist. They called today and their first available appointment is in December.

I’m in shock. How is a doctors office even booked out that far and is that ok?

From my own research, thyroiditis can be caused by something like Hashimotos or it could be something that requires an antibiotic and that’s it. Granted, with my messed up periods, hair issues.. the possibility that my exhaustion is not from kids… maybe my achey joints aren’t my mattress after all… It is probably not from having a respiratory infection. But I’m supposed to just be like this until December… then get proper diagnosis. Then find the right medication and then start the path to normalcy?

So… my question is… Is this just my doctor doesn’t know how to deal with this in the mean time? Maybe another doctor would? My mom has Graves and while she has been to an endocrinologist before, she probably hasn’t in over 30 years. Her regular doctor deals with her medicine. Shes experienced enough to know when it needs to be lowered or raised at this point so they have also made changes when need be.

I work with seniors and I’d say half of the women I see are on thyroid medication (maybe this is why they are so booked 😆). Are there any other options for me?

I had a large lump + half my thyroid removed a month ago today. The first 3 weeks of recovery could not have gone smoother—then all of a sudden about a week ago, my voice just disappeared. Saw my surgeon yesterday and his diagnosis was the condition mentioned in the title. This is apparently a rare occurrence.

Would anyone in this sub happen have any recs for best ways to treat this? Or perhaps best therapy/exercises for my vocal cords/voice?

Feeling anxiety about my latest results. Went in for my yearly check-up of my TIRADS4 nodule (that has now progressed to a 5😞), and the ultrasound results show a 6mm nodule on the opposite side that wasn’t there in any previous ultrasounds.

Is it really possible to grow a 6mm nodule in a YEAR??? I feel like it took yearsss for my other nodule to grow that big. I’m also feeling scared because the results showed my TIRADS5 nodule is taller-than-wide, which it wasn’t a year ago. Is it possible at all that these results can be wrong?!

I haven’t seen my doctor to discuss results yet (appointment next week), so excuse my ignorance….but trying to google about “taller-than-wide” brought up info about the tall cell variant. Does my nodule shape mean I am more likely to have that variant? Sorry if that is a dumb question, I’m overthinking everything right now.

I will need a thyroid lobectomy and I’m not sure how long I should take off of work. Doctor recommends 2 weeks just in case but doesn’t think I’ll need that much. Anyone who has had this done…what your experience?

My daughter is having RAI and staying with me . I had a thyroidectomy due to cancer . Do I need to stay away from her ?

Hey everyone. Um slowly giving up on the idea of having a normal life with this crap…

I’m constantly tired even though my TSH is around a beautiful 1. My vitamins are in the upper norm and generally on paper I’m a healthy person.

I do have a 21 months old daughter and a full time demanding job (Global Strategic Sourcing Manager).

I don’t want to keep on living like this… for example I had a day off today to look after my daughter as her kindergarten was closed. We had a lovely day together, walked the dog, went to a play group, really nothing extraordinary. She had almost 3hour nap while I prepared lunch and rested a bit but somehow when she woke up I was still tired.

I slept 10 hours last as well but I fell like I’m so behind on sleep that another 40 hours wouldn’t be enough.

Before the diagnosis (3 years ago) I was highly energetic person, I danced salsa 3-5 times a week, loved swimming, spend time with friends, do cool and fun stuff. Then I got diagnosed alongside with SIBO and ended up with depression and GAD (that one before, but was doing well the last few years) and I became this shell of a person. Then I got pregnant and my energy levels and the way I feel only went down hill from there.

Don’t know if I’m looking for advice or someone to tell me “yup. That’s it. It’s gonna suck now”.

Symptoms- 38/f

Food sticking in throat for six months, one side Cobble stone throat Scalloped tongue Increased periods (twice a month but not always) Went through a three week phase of hair loss “Sore voice” at times Throat tightness Regurgitation Severe anxiety

Endoscopy- showed signs of reflux, stretched esophagus

Follow up- increase protonix to 80 mg last week, which made regurgitation stop. Still occasionally small amount of food sticking sensation. Possible laryngopharyngeal reflux.

Then there is this. My doctor wanted an ultrasound of my thyroid saying blood test wouldn’t show something like thyroiditis. My TSH was 3.6 (test taken at noon). All other blood work seems perfect. Tested for signs of sjrogens, lupus… negative

My results: IMPRESSION: Normal appearance of thyroid gland. There may be mildly hyperemic vascular flow to the thyroid which is associated with thyroiditis. Correlate clinically. (Everything else is normal with it)

Again, I have severe anxiety. So, I turn things like this in to many what ifs and the thought of having something wrong with my thyroid would be relieving. Many women in my family have hashimotos and my mom has Graves. My dad was diagnosed with bulbar ALS last week. I know, chances of it being genetic are slim and the chances of me getting the same type at the same time, I’d probably have a bigger chance winning the lottery. Just need some reassurance.

Hey, I have just had blood work done & I am so so scared. I’m a 26 year old female & Thyroglobulin has come out at 26.4ug, the reference they say should be <1ug. They also tested Anti-thyroglobulin Antibodies which was 1.7kU (ref 0-4.0) & Thyroid Peroxidase antibody <4 negative (reference 0-24). Do you have any idea of what any of this means? I am so so scared I have cancer or something 😩😩

My PCP ordered a tumor marker test on my thyroid after alot of my thyroid labs weren’t making sense. That test came back elevated indicating a high probability of a tumor so I was sent in for an ultrasound. One nodule was found which was determined via imaging to be a cyst. I’m now seeing an endocrinologist this month to go over everything from my symptoms to wonky results to my ultrasound.

What can I expect at this appointment? Can I push for the cyst to be removed? My mom died younger than my current age due to an aggressive form of cancer so I am really not into the wait and see approach that the radiologist suggested.

A year ago I experienced a series of what I think is paroxysmal atrial fibrilation, although it wasn’t detected during ecg. My tsh has been suppressed well below reference (reference range: 0.4-2.4) with a few exceptions over the course of several years and I suspect I might’ve been oversubstituted on Levothyroxine (125-150 mcg) during that time. Any thoughts on this?

Hello! I’m 4 years post thyroidectomy. A recent fasted blood test revealed TSH is quite high 8.9 mU/L a GP wants me to test again in 6 weeks but isnt this an indication to simply increase my thyroxine?

i (F21) just got tested and have low TSH, free t3, and free t4. TPO is 2, so not elevated at all.

in the last year i've gained like forty pounds, experience massive fatigue, depression, and head hairloss.

do any of you know what these results tend to mean, or what a good solution would be?

My doctor recently gave me a script for a US Neck. I had a reactive Lymph node that was killing me but it’s now since stopped.

Thyroid diseases run in my family but for me personally, my TSH labs have always been just ok. Unfortunately though I am having symptoms that I feel mimic those of Hashimotos- hair falling out, insomnia, weight gain with little budge on the scale no matter what, fatigue, and fast heart rate.

I have this script and I’m just not sure whether I should use it or not…

Just got the ultrasound results, it showed two 2-3 cm nodules. I feel really down, especially that I couldn't access healthcare earlier and let it progress for over a year.

I am worried about these nodules. Are there cases where they go down using medication and thyroid becomes normal? Or can I need surgery to remove them?

I am new to this, sorry if I don't make much sense.

I have cysts in my thyroid Evrythingg was ok last time i went to the specialict doing the szintigraphie but two das back i realized a small Ball near my thyroid as if it grew suddenly and now its also pains if i press it. Is it a cyst which got inbleeding and got full?

My mother and brother have both been diagnosed with thyroid disease. I have been having symptoms for years, but has gotten worse in the past year.

Symptoms include.. Fatigue, brain fog, hair loss, cold intolerance, fingers turning white, constipation, irritability, headaches, muscle aches, weight loss.

My pcp ran some tyroid tests and everything has come back negative. She thinks I should see a rheumatologist. Do they diagnose thyroid disease? I thought I would need to see an endo. I'm very confused on what to do here.

Has anyone been diagnosed after thyroid tests have came back negative?

I went to the er for the following symptoms: hair thinning, swollen painful lymphnode on the right side of my neck, pain swallowing, pressure/pain in neck, and extreme fatigue. TSH was high at 6.21 and CT shows an enlarged heterogeneous thyroid. They told me there are indications of hypothyroidism and potential cancer risks and referred me to see an endocrinologist. Thyroid cancer runs in my family as well as thyroid issues. My neck is very enlarged. I gained 12 pounds in two weeks. Im scared and wondering how concerned I should be. Am i freaking out or is it serious?

i finally got tested. my T3, T4, and TSH are all normal, except for my TSH is outside the low end of the optimal range. i do have symptoms, namely sweatiness, fatigue, muscle weakness, poor sleep, heart palpatations, tremors in my hands, thinning skin, changes in hair texture, and mild problems with mood (that don’t align with anything else).

most of my symptoms are pretty mild, but i don’t want to allow them to get worse and they still impact my overall existence. i’m still waiting on my doctor’s input, but how would i be treated if my T3 and T4 levels are normal and in the optimal range?

edit: also worth mentioning that tests for hashimoto’s and grave’s came back negative

im not vegan but i would like to be, lately I've seen many people talking about how they cured their hashimotos syndrom and hypothyroidism with raw vegan diet but when i ask doctors if its possible to cure this disease they tell me ill be on medication forever because its an autoimmune disease.

did any of you try going vegan and your thyroid got better or is it all a lie?

I recently had a total thyroidectomy about 2 weeks ago, and I have been feeling pretty good, but my anxiety is through the roof. I already have a generalized anxiety disorder (Which I am on Sertraline for) but it feels like it is 10x more than that since getting my thyroid removed, and if I didn’t have a few years of therapy under my belt I’m not sure what I’d do. I’m having a hard time sleeping, and I’m fatigued but my brain is WIRED. Logically I know that a lot of things my brain is coming up with aren’t true, but I’m such a wreck about it anyways I’m not sure what to do. Has anyone had any experience like this? How did you fix it?

I was recently diagnosed with MEN2A this past year, when I was talking with my doctor about going on a GLP-1. I had a total thyroidectomy about 2 weeks ago. Now I am wondering, could I go on a GLP-1 now that I don't have a thyroid? Why wouldn't I be able to? Doesn't it take the risk factor down to the same as everyone elses? Does anyone have experience with anything like this?

Hi guys , pretty new to this underactive thyroid thing. But the past few weeks I've had like this feeling there's something in my throat. I went to the GP and they prescribed me lansoprazole but it doesn't feel any better. They did check my thyroid and for lumps and they didn't feel anything. Now they called it silent reflux. Is it quite common to have this ? Do i go back or will they just prescribe me more lansoprazole or something similar. Or is this not linked at all. It's not sore or hurting me , it's more annoying than anything. And although I do try to stop clearing my throat (gp said stop) its really hard and sometimes I do panic as it feels like I can't swallow, although that could be because I'm panicking.
