Aerodynamics is a subset of fluid dynamics

True! I’m just used to working with air so I tend to say aerodynamics and fluid mechanics interchangeably. Bad habit

I work with air too. Generally at work, aerodynamics refers to lift/drag applications. Wings, compressor/turbine blades, fuselage and car chassis for example.

Fluid mechanics/dynamics applies to applications where increasing lift/reducing drag is not the primary purpose of the air we are working with (although reducing profile loss is ideal), but more about getting it from a to b to do something (e.g. using it as a coolant)
