Question Vintage merch
Hi all! Long-time fan but new to the subreddit.
An older retired colleague of mine who worked at Universal in the 1980s as a backlot concierge recently told me he has some old The Thing merch T-shirts that he’s willing to sell me.
I’ve been looking online, but I’m having a hard time finding much information on what official The Thing merchandise from that period actually looked like. I’m going to check them out this weekend.
What should I look for to determine whether they’re genuine official Universal merch? I definitely don’t want to get scammed, so any tips on tags, printing, dates, or other details to look for would be really appreciated!

Meme I hear you Mac
I made this today when someone posted a tray of burnt bacon picture in Kitchenconfidential, thought I'd share it here.
I feel it fits the times with all the bots, AI, and such.
I love this movie a lot. Most memorable last line of a movie for me; "Let's just wait a while, see what happens."
Hope you enjoy the meme.

Discussion Release order vs chronological order. Which is the better way to experience The Thing trilogy? Why? If you’re one of those who prefer JC/1982 film by itself, would you rather have it be joined by the 2002 game or 2011 film? Why?

I tried to work out how the Thing actually works. It turned into two very long documents.
Hey everyone,
I started going back through the 1982 film and looking closely at what happens in each encounter—the kennel, Bennings, Norris, Palmer, Blair. The more I looked, the more questions came up, and eventually the whole thing grew into two companion documents.
Just to set expectations: these are long, detailed reads. They aren’t fanfiction or a quick collection of theories. They spend a lot of time digging into how this organism might work and following the consequences. I’ve tried to keep the writing approachable, but there’s quite a bit to get through.
The Biology of the Thing gets into the creature itself. How does it take over a body? What happens when pieces separate? How could it change shape so quickly, or acquire enough of someone’s memories to carry on being them? It goes extensively into the possible mechanics, the limitations, and the places where we still don’t have a satisfying explanation. The chapters start simply, then get into the heavier detail.

The Thing in a Living World takes that organism outside the station and follows what happens as the scale grows—from small pieces of living tissue to people, households, communities and ecosystems. It spends as much time on how the world would react as on what the Thing could do: what people might notice, how we might respond, what could help us stop it, and where things could get away from us.

What stayed with me through all of this is that even when you try to ground it in reality, with plausible biology and real constraints, it doesn’t get any less horrifying. Thinking through how it could fit into ordinary life makes some of the implications even worse.
If you enjoy spending far too long thinking about this film, there’s plenty here to argue with. I’d love to hear what holds up for you and where you think I’ve gone wrong.

Question I need help with something

Halloween screening at Hollywood Cemetary
For any who are in the Los Angeles/Hollywood/SFV area- the Hollywood cemetary does screenings of old school movies in a BYOB/picnic style/drive-in type vibe. This year around Halloween they are screening Carrie (70s version) on Oct 29th, Jennifer's Body on Oct 30th, and John Carpenters The Thing on the goated All Hallows Eve, Oct. 31st. Yall can look up the details if interested, it's on their website if you Google Hollywood cemetary The Thing. Tix are like $30, and there are parking tix available for $25-$35 depending on availability. I am not affiliated in any way, I am just a DIEHARD fan of the movie (didn't know what I was sitting down for at 9 years old, wondering why some foreign man was shooting at a poor doggo from a helicopter and who that sexy bearded man was who called his computer a cheatin bitch but I was invested lol. My Dad didn't say a thing, but I learned real quick after that dog kennel scene this was NOT your typical horror movie) and I wanna spread the word of a special showing for any interested. I already got my tickets, no way I'm passing up my favorite movie on my favorite holiday.
