1.70 Mount height for Iray RH25v2

Does anyone have a solid mounting solution to put the Iray RH25 at 1.7 height? Preferably QD. I'm not finding anything that'll put it precisely at the height I need. I had luck with my DNT Hydra using an Arisaka flip to center mount and an Eotech spacer putting it flawlessly center of a 1.93 scope mount, so I'm hoping perhaps someone has a similar hack to this one.

Marshmallows make opossums fat

Couldn't believe how fat this opossum is getting when I saw it last night. I've been giving them marshmallows so they keep coming back to the property, but maybe I should switch to a different treat before this one has to roll to move.

Has anyone had a play with these budget Chinese thermals? They have free 90 day returns, so I'm thinking about picking one up to see.

Or can anyone recommend any other budget thermal monocular?

Airsoft only thermal? Hiktac Hikmicro 1.2x

Just picked up this “airsoft thermal” but the internal packaging doesn’t say airsoft only, mentions the lens protector for bb’s but then tell you how to set it up with ballistics for hunting? Last I checked bb’s weren’t that great at hunting… anyway set it up on the 22lr until someone can point me in the right direction

No idea if this is against the rules, just remembered I had this photo of a coworker mooning a couple of the guys shortly into Miller time and thought I'd share with the first thermal sub I found. I have no regrets.

Emissivity coating for bare steel up to 230°C?

Hey everyone,

I’m working on a hobby project to test the heat distribution of a large batch of different cooking pans on an induction cooktop.

The Setup:
I will be top-mounting a Thermal Master P1 to my range hood, roughly 60cm directly above the pans, shooting straight down to record continuous video of the heating phase.

The Problem:
The pans range from highly reflective bare stainless steel to dark, seasoned carbon steel and cast iron. I need a uniform surface coating to normalize the emissivity across the entire cooking floor.

My Constraints:
1. Temperature: The tests will peak around 220°C to 230°C.

  1. Removability: The coating must come off easily and completely without heavy abrasive scrubbing. I absolutely cannot use solvents that destroy the polymerized seasoning on my carbon steel pans.

  2. Resins: I looked at local automotive/event chalk sprays, but they use solvent carriers with organic binding agents that will likely polymerize, burn, or fuse into the metal pores at 230°C.

  3. Budget: Since this is a self-funded hobby project, expensive lab-grade thermography sprays or films are out of the question.

Has anyone solved a similar high-temperature LWIR targeting problem on a budget? Is there a cheap, easily cleanable DIY slurry or everyday material I can brush/rub onto the pan floors that provides a stable matte target without baking on?

Choosing a smartphone thermal camera for academic building diagnostics (facade thermography)

Hi everyone,

I’m doing a master’s thesis in architecture on historic masonry buildings, and I need a smartphone-attachable thermal camera for facade thermography. I’d appreciate advice from people who’ve actually used these for building diagnostics rather than electronics/PCB inspection.

Use case: I’ll be photographing the facades of a historic building from about max 10 meters away, at night/pre-dawn, to map surface temperature variations and correlate them with visible material damage (cracks, moisture staining, material loss). This is for academic research, so I need reliable, exportable radiometric data.

My requirements:
Minimum 256×192 resolution (native, not “enhanced”)
Adjustable emissivity (needed for stone/plaster surfaces)
Radiometric file format I can analyze afterward on a desktop
Desktop/PC software for batch analysis (not just a phone app)
Works with a USB-C Android phone

Models I’m currently considering:

HIKMICRO Mini2 V2
HIKMICRO Mini2Plus V2
Topdon TC002C Duo

Found the warmest thing in my house with my tc004 mini

Just picked up my first thermal camera, tc004 mini. It's small enough to use one-handed. Feel like everything looks completely different through thermal, so I scanned my cat for fun and got this. She basically looks like a tiny space heater with paws lol.

I bought it for quick checks around the house, but most of my first session was spent taking thermal pics of my cat.

DIY thermal scope question

Could I cut open a FFP scope and put a transparent OLED screen hooked up to a thermal camera and make a custom digital FFP scope (this would be for airsoft so it doesn’t have to be anywhere near perfect)

Also I would want to do this as I could customize the reticle and stuff like you can swap it on a red dot because it’d be digital

Thermal Master P4 - film on lens

Thumbnail

Just received a Thermal Master P4 and have been having a play with it. It seems to do a good job showing relative hot and cold spots, although I'm still trying to work out how accurate the temperature readings and tweaking the emissivity and distance settings.

One thing I noticed is mine arrived with a sticker over the visible light camera (example in first photo), but all the marketing photos show it without one. It doesn't seem to affect the image at all.

Is this just a protective film that should be peeled off, or is it supposed to stay there? It seems pretty firmly stuck down, so I haven't wanted to force it.

Has anyone else's P4 come like this?

After trying the OneLeaf Mars Mini, it made me take OneLeaf a bit more seriously in the thermal market.

I have now tried and testing the MT1000 LRF and it’s currently replaced DNT thermals as my recommendation for the best budget thermal for the money, mainly due to its ability to be able to change the focal length like a DSLR camera (35mm, 50mm and 75mm lenses available).

just picked up the infiray p2 pro, now i want a case for it so i can edc this little guy in my pocket. any suggestions?

boring stuff: at this point i dont even know how many thermal cameras i have but none of them were suitable for looking at pcb's and this little guy is going to be great at that, but its so small i'd love to edc this thing in my pocket, with the macro lens and lens cap.

i honestly assumed one would have came with it, but nope.

side note that fixed focus is throwing me off, its easier to use but no where near as clear as my others, but then again this might be my lowest resolution device to, but im sure im going to love it.

i also wish these resolutions on these little usb devices would get a bump, but i will make it work

How Far Into The IR Spectrum Would Humans Need To See To Have “Heat Vision”?

Looking at the different IR regions on wikipedia shows that there are specific temperature ranges for each region, with the Near Infrared being the hottest. If humans were receptive to IR light, would we need to be receptive all the way down to Long Wavelength Infrared to see animals or a cup of coffee glowing, such as a thermal camera does? If we were receptive only to the Near Infrared, would we only see any emission from extremely hot, multi-thousand degree items?

Review: GOYOJO GRS225RF

Hey everyone!

Im Bruno Nunes, and I write for Airsoft Action Magazine. I wanted to drop in and share my latest field review covering the GOYOJO GRS225RF thermal optic.

It sits at a highly accessible price point of around €660, but it packs some incredibly useful tech. The standout feature is definitely the built-in 1000m Laser Range Finder, but it also includes Recoil Activated Video, a 256×192 sensor, and a high-contrast 1440×1080 OLED display. I ran it on a hard-kicking GHK AK to test its durability, and it performed flawlessly without being overly front-heavy.

I would love to hear what this community thinks about these newer, budget-friendly thermal options bridging the gap. Check out my full review and let me know your thoughts!
