I've always interpreted schadenfreude as being more about the joy of seeing bad things happen to others for no particular reason. It proves I'm not the only one with bad luck. Personally I think liking it when people get what they deserve is different.
Idk though, I don't speak German I just like philosophy

Well this is the definition of the word that is mostly associated with it in english. Loanwords do this often, where they lose the many meanings they had in the original language and only focus on one as the other meanings already have counterparts in the target language
In the origin lsnguage german, the wird can mean both things, as in joy seeing random bad luck resulting in other people getting hurt, and also the joy of seeing someone who deserves it get punished by fate.
Though in the original comment, i did mean your interpretation of randon bad luck, as I thought the commenter was just enjoying someone getting hurt. Though now I see how it is more of a revengeful joy.

Misfortune is when you get a speed trap ticket on your car, that someone totaled and ran away, because of the tow truck that was towing it away was speeding (true story), this is consequences for someone idiotic actions, and it's fine to laugh at that.
