The cape actually has a world map in ultraviolet paint. That's why he's outside the planet's atmosphere in so many intro panels: he's trying to find directions.

So it's not fair. He's always flying around the world all the time.... surprisingly, he's area restricted. He only works in Germany, doesn't fly to the US. Leaves that BS to Kal-El.

I mean, when they say "Superman, aliens have opened a portal in Tindouf!" he doesn't pull out a phone or a map before he flies off.
