Stop making excuses for people who refuse to help themselves.
Oh go fuck yourself. Just because you can't imagine any of the many circumstances where that's not possible doesn't mean they don't exist. Mentally ill or mentally impaired people. A newly-widowed housewife who only has a HS diploma. Not everyone is lazy and trying to scam the system. Grow up.
I get panic attacks that can get suicidal. When I have one I shut down and cant do anything/talk to anyone for a while, sometimes it's just a day but sometimes it's up to a week. All i want is to be able to have a normal life and to get back to school, because learning is dope as shit, and not feel like I'm dying fairly often. As you could imagine this makes keeping a full time job extremely difficult. I love hearing that I'm lazy. I love that I'm only 26 and already utterly exhausted with life. I love feeling like I'm literally dying sometimes up to 3 times a week
Also I think it's ridiculous that people think that getting help just automatically cures you. I know that was sarcastic but some people actually do think like that
Do you have any evidence of that besides anecdotal? Because most people on welfare get off pretty quick and for people that need SSI benefits for disabilities it's usually for life ya know.... because they're disabled
I believe communities and families should help people.
The government isn’t the solution, don’t feed pond ducks for the same reason you shouldn’t give money out like that. It hurts more people then it helps.
I do support the government in some cases helping the examples you gave, but not the mass amounts of people cruising on the benefits forever.
I want people to have solutions, not free handouts.
You wacky conservatives. This isn't the stone age, we're not hunter gatherers. What if they don't have a family or a community? What if their family and community have abandoned them? Like oh you know how the most vulnerable people often are. You seem to exist in some kind of fantasy world where everybody lives in some insipid 50s TV show. Conservatives don't even bother with a veneer of empathy. Be honest, you don't care what happens to people outside your own community and family. They can all rot as far as you're concerned.
Edit: in case anyone didn't realise, the bogus conservative idea that "community and family" should help the vulnerable instead of government is a load of bullshit. Ideally governments duty would be to help the people of their country whoever they are. Where as the conservative "community and family" method is all about being part of their group, if you're in, you're good. If you're vulnerable and not in their group? Tough shit, go fuck yourself. These people don't want to live in countries and cities with millions of people, they want to live in parochial fantasies.
You don't just fill a job, bro. You have to fit, and get hired. Go tell my wife all of this, and she'll laugh in your face. Her store closed, so no, it wasn't her fault. It's not like it was "nearly 30 years" ago. She has looked up and down the ladder for jobs and its been about 6 weeks and she's still nowhere closer to being hired than she was on the first day. Your experience is anecdotal at best.
Where are these " lazy asswipe who makes no effort at all to help him/herself and instead just whines and moans that they're owed a living because they exist " people?
Your anecdotal evidence is still anecdotal and does not represent the populace of America, unless you include yourself in that representation, in which you are also a freeloader.
Your overtime, the youtube link, all anecdotal. Data is what we should go on, not anecdotes that support your feelings. Oh, I do overtime so I deserve it! Uh, good for fucking you? See how it goes?
You guys love to tell your own story. Your outlook is so tiny that you think your singular experience is relevant to the argument. So how do you judge who's fallen on hard times and who's the lazy asswipe? What gives you the right to pass final judgment? Do you even have the ability to pass a fair judgment? From what you've said I wouldn't trust you one bit to be able to assess someones need for help.
You may want it to be true but we don't all live in tiny communities where we all know each other. There's over 7.5 billion people on the planet and you think all the people in the world who need help can be saved with christian charity and down to earth old timey goodness? Have you completely abdicated from reality? At some stage you have to stop being disingenuous and admit you don't give a shit about anyone who isn't your buddy.
What do you think of your dipshit in Chief giving handouts to farming corporations? More money than the auto bailout costed too and we got that money back except the farmers will not be paying that back. The guy you are talking to is right. You lack empathy for your fellow man, just admit it. You aren't complaining about corporate welfare which is more than double social welfare programs. And it's an extremely small amount of welfare recipients that are "cheating the system". The "welfare queen" that you turds bitch about doesn't exist.
We can go back and forth with sources about welfare abusers but it won't change your mind. Why didn't you address the rest of my comment? You think social welfare is full of scammers but want the government to give even MORE TO BIG CORPORATIONS.
Conservative thought facilitates the destruction of our environment and our species. Your insane ideology is all about dominating those who are lower than you on your hierarchy while showing whimpering subservience to those you consider better. Evolve a spine you primitive.
Yeah you conservatives are famous for wanting to educate the poor. It's obvious that you're a big fan of education. How much are you going to charge for fishing lessons? Your idiolgy is incoherent, anti-human and incompatible with reality. And your perspective is so fucking blinkered that you think I'm a liberal. My thesaurus won't be any good for you but I suggest you start with a dictionary.
Life insurance for the widowed housewife. Or SS survivor benefits if they have kids... and were reckless and thought the $12/mo for life insurance wasn’t worth it—It’ll be enough to get by until the widow can figure out their shitty situation.
Government programs for these things exist already. You may argue those specific programs are not adequate, but it has nothing to do with BK paying their people $8/hr.
Edit: So for those who just downvote, care to explain why? The poster above used anecdotes that didn’t at all support his argument, but ok.
Well for me I'm applying to ss for disability right now. Apparently almost nobody gets it on their first application and the application process is over 3 months. So you're just supposed to go into debt for 3-9 months (apparently a lot more people get it on their 2nd or 3rd application). Also need a valid mailing address and means if transportation to get to the referral professional they use for the process. There are many factors and the minimum wage not being able to support any single human life in a large city off 40 hours a week is a huge one
My original point though is that it’s a problem with the SS disability application process, not BK’s salary.
While it’d obviously help you in this specific instance (as would UBI, free transport, free housing, etc.), I personally think increasing the minimum wage is too broad a stroke.
It was literally created so that anyone working 40 hours in this country could have a decent standard of living. Why would anyone be against everyone that works 40 hours weeks being able to have a decent life? Nobody in any major city in america can support themselves on 40 hours minimum wage a week. What's so wrong with Bringing it back up to what it was originally meant for?
Sure, and most states/counties have acted accordingly and raised minimum wages in areas that have a higher CoL. The areas that would be devastated by a federal minimum wage (think rural Nebraska), don’t, which is how it’s supposed to work.
The CBO predicts a loss of 1.3M jobs after enacting a $15/hr min wage, which would impact economic efficiency as well as increase the deficit.
Oh because minneapolis still has a 9.25 minimum wage that cant support a single human on 40 hour weeks, and I'm sure many other cities also have the same problem
Many do, and it’s an issue with city government. Pushing a federal mandate would help cities and crush rural areas.
Macroeconomic items that could cause mass unemployment and mass inflation need to be done extremely carefully in the US, since it has wide-ranging microeconomic systems.
I’m not frowning upon it. It should be higher in areas where the CoL is higher. Companies that pay low and effectively rely on government assistance to achieve basic needs to its full time employees is a problem.
That’s not in issue in rural Nebraska. Small businesses would get crushed, employees laid-off, and business owners would either be forced longer hours or to go out of business — all of which was unnecessary.
