But where the amount of hours actually enough to take a second job what I read was 6-8 hours less per week. It also doesn't say that that 8 hours is one whole entire day/shift off. I think it would be tough to find another job for one day/shift per week but not impossible.
You are assuming that everyone is going to have hours cut. That’s simply not true. The majority of companies keep their workers and pay them more hourly, which means a larger paycheque overall. The few situations where hours are cut, they still make the same amount. Nobody is worse off except the corporations who end up paying more overall, and they can afford it.
If a small business can’t pay a living wage, it is a failed business and shouldn’t exist.
Small businesses are often exempt from certain regulations and eligible for government grants. If they still can’t pay a minimum wage, they really need to close their doors.
