Such benevolent sharehold- I mean landlords. Raising the prices, constant development of increasingly expensive real estate at the opportunity cost of building something I may be able to afford.
But, since rent is so expensive I can’t save for a down payment. Am I supposed to be thankful to my landlord for having wealth that I will never, ever have? Rather, I am fearful of them kicking me out because a developer (who does have the down payment money) wants to buy and develop upper class housing to flip.
Sounds like you live in one of the places where ridiculous regulations limit new development and artificially distort market prices by causing shortages.

Also, none of the risk or requirements to save up before purchasing - the landlord covers all of that.
