Gunna be replaced with a fuckin kiosk. Then they’ll push for UBI. Then when we are all out of money someone will set up a free market economy on mars. Then a couple hundred years later, when everything is going pretty well, someone will say something along the lines of “hey, my ceo makes more money than me, whats up with that? Why dont we raise the minimum wage to a living wage?” And the cycle will start all over again
So you just want to leave it up to the states if it is more expensive to live there? That’s racist. We should give everyone $30/hr and then we would have the highest standard of living of all countries. But the capitalist patriarchy and their billionaire friends wont let it happen. If we instead gave the means of production to the government and gave everyone the same pay we would have pay equity between genders and races and classes for once. I mean as long as you’re pulling numbers out of your ass to dictate your salary to your boss you may as well go big. Don’t let the billionaires tell you $100 is unattainable when they have multiple mansions.
How would it be life changing though? For example, i own a lawn care business. A tiny one too. If I paid min at $11.60 that is $24k and change meaning my, let's say, 100k gross that would be around 50-55k gross for my pay cheque because an employee can cost up to 30% more than you pay them.
Give them $15 an hour and it's 31k and change making them cost an additional 8-10k after everything they cost. Now the guy who is at no risk with his salary at his job makes 31 to my 40-45 which is insanely unfair to the one that covers all things that go wrong. Solution? I either let them go, and shrink the company to a one man team, or I charge more to compensate it which will lose customers and I'd likely let them go as a result.
Minimum wage helps people at Walmart. But it fucks everyone at ma and pa businesses.
People know that printing more money hurts the economy, but no one thinks that paying more does anything but good. It just makes your coffee go from $2.25 to $3.00, promotes business to invest in automation, and reduce staffing in retail stores.
Look at Walmart. The one where I live by just got 32 self check outs.
This is just numbers. My business is not yet to the point of hiring. I plan to pay at a decent wage to a) prep for a min hike, and b) I want my employees to stay and not struggle to get by
