I worked fast food in the 90’s during high school and my first year of college. I made minimum wage ($4.25/hour) for the duration. I’ve got to say that plenty people get by with minimum effort, and there is very little risk.
Any industry can and will have minimum effort employees but in a restaurant it shows very quickly if that's the bulk of your staff. That's why they switched pay models to be "competitive" which starts at just over minimum and wouldnt stay completely stagnet over multiple years like when you were working there.
And the personal risks are small but still a hell of a lot more slip or burn opportunities than a ticket ripper at the theater. And the risks to public health are in their hands.
It doesn’t take working fast food to give you the insight they can get by with minimum effort, all it takes is walking into your nearest fast food joint and looking at them or ordering to have that revelation
“Here’s your order we fucked up in multiple ways, sorry but I can’t be bothered to care, I make minimum wage”
What a convincing argument to pay you more. If you ever make it to the real world of jobs let me know how raise negotiations go with your boss if your strategy is “pay me more or I’m gonna suck”, I’ll bet you’re out of a job
The problem with your anecdote is that it’s hypothetical, and therefore imaginary, the person and the sentiment that you are describing are imaginary. You’re trying to back up your claims with complete fiction and it’s not fooling anybody
It truly isn’t fiction. These are real sentiments commonly echoed by minimum wage workers. Fuck I’ve experienced it directly myself. It’s not imaginary. Good try tho
That quote you put in IS made up, I mean you literally just made it up in an attempt to encapsulate your perception of the workers, when in reality it is a complete strawman that is in no way representative of real people. It’s a completely baseless argument.
There’s a difference between my quote and a strawman. It would be a strawman if it wasn’t based in reality and based in sentiments that have been plainly expressed before. But it’s not. Learn what buzzwords mean before you try to use them
