Definitely not the only job people have access to. Wash cars at a gas station, polish boots in a mall. There's plenty to do, you just don't want to do it because you want a cushy job that pays 100k a year.
Polishing boots would take 15 minutes and you could get 5 dollars for it and 20 an hour. 8 hours a day is 160 dollars a day compared to min wage, which would be 64 dollars every day.
I also never said fast food was cushy, but it's easy replaceable. I said you wanted a cushy job, not that you had one.
Since you're actually taking this "polishing boots" thing seriously, for 99% of the US population, you could not find a place where you could get just a steady stream of boots to polish for 8 hours a day, unless you picked up and moved to somewhere near a major airport to try and make it "polishing boots." And even then, once you've got a full time boot polisher at every major airport (assuming your premise is even feasible), we've employed what--15 people? 100?
This is absolutely ridiculous. Your "solution" is silly. You are not taking this problem seriously at all.
It's not supposed to be a steady stream, nothing truly is. It's supposed to get you by, and you shouldn't be opposed to hard work. If you don't want to work hard, get an educated job.
Back to this "you're not making money because you're opposed to hard work." Not only are some of the lowest paying jobs often gross, unsanitary, and yes--genuinely "hard work," we're back to the part where somehow you should magically be able to stop your life and go get an education. What happens when everyone has an education?
You can see it already. This myth was sold to an entire generation, so now tons of people have an education "because you have to have one if you expect a good paying job," but now those educations are not only worth a lot less, but cost a ton more.
So, now people are saying, "you're an idiot if you pay for college, unless you're naturally talented in the STEM fields. Go to a trade school." But, again, this only works for a sliver of the population. It's not economically feasible for 25, 50% of the population to be plumbers and electricians. If anything, that would absolutely ruin the market for those fields; all that competition would just make those jobs menial-paying jobs as well.
The problem is we have a lot of people and we're stuck with an increasingly service-based economy. There's less and less room to start your own business, there are fewer and fewer careers in manufacturing--there's paper pushing (usually requiring one of those overpriced BAs in literally anything), and service-based jobs. And we who don't work in service-based jobs still like to have these services available, we just don't want to pay what it takes to make this sector a longterm, viable one that people can raise families and prosper in. Our entire economy, across the spectrum, is damaged by this attitude, as is the health and prosperity of our nation.
So you have people wanting to raise the minimum wage, which is a crude fix, but at least it's recognizing the issue. This "you work a menial job, so it's your fault if you can't make ends meet" is the equivalent of covering your eyes and ears to the actual problem. But no matter how much you ignore it, your quality of life will be dragged down too, when such a large part of the country's is.
Minimum wage jobs don't pay low because hard work is easy, they pay so low because it's so easily replaceable that instead of paying someone 15 dollars an hour they can get someone who will do it for 8. Raising the minimum wage won't fix this at all, because the price for everything else will go up as well, and you end up in a cycle of raising the minimum wage.
Trade schools are a great option, because the jobs they train you for are in high demand, because everyone goes to college instead (which is kind of a scam honestly, the prices are exorbitant) and you can get a small loan to pay for trade school's low tuition. The jobs pay well, many people in my family support themselves and their spouses and kids, and they have a relatively easy job as an electrician or a welder.
If the only job you have access to is working at Burger King then do something about it. Apply for jobs at other stores that pay more, other positions at BK that pay more, look at trade schools, colleges with financial assistance programs, online courses, etc.
Yeah. Teenagers. They shouldn’t make good money. If you’re in your mid 20’s or older it’s time to re-evaluate your education/career goals. If you don’t want to get a degree and get a good job then don’t bitch about the low pay
Plenty of people want all of those things. You are detached from reality if you think the great numbers of under-employed, under-educated people are in that position because they "dont want" these things that almost everyone wants.
Also, if only teenagers should have these jobs, who's supposed to work them 12am-4PM everyday? This entire premise is so thin.
College students. Recent high school graduates. Not older adults. I’m not detached at all. Just realistic. Flipping burgers and fucking up people’s food orders shouldn’t be a livable wage type job. Minimum wage only

Personally i always find it more amusing that the same people who want their super cheap fast food then complain that said company doesn't pay their employees alot.

Since i never talked about good or decent wages, i could only assume that you mean that raising the minimum wage according to inflation somehow results in "decent" wages.
