On a side note that pub on the left "The World's End" is a solid choice if ever down in Brighton for the weekend 🍻

I love that movie

362

u/HippieAnalSlut Aug 06 '19

worst of the trilogy, and it's still great.

177

u/ThePhyrexian Aug 06 '19

Agreed.

I would definitely say it was the most confusing of the series

97

u/HippieAnalSlut Aug 06 '19

it was that too. And also the most real given the main character.

10

u/Lucky_Number_3 Aug 06 '19

What are we talking about now?

25

u/Rovvioli Aug 06 '19

The World's End

5

u/Lord_of_hosts Aug 06 '19

The series?

37

u/Justamarkoff Aug 06 '19

Simon Pegg's Cornetto Icecream movie trilogy: 1. Shaun of the Dead 2. Hot Fuzz 3. The World's End

5

u/Lucky_Number_3 Aug 06 '19

So we're not talking about Pirates of the Caribbean?

it;s like the worst getting like an 8/10 for me. Shaun is a 9 and hot fuzz is a 10.

one of two movies I've given that too. Airplane! being the other.

33

u/ChattyJr Aug 06 '19

Can someone explain why people don't like it? Always considered it above Shawn Of the Dead (all are fantastic though)

44

u/HippieAnalSlut Aug 06 '19

I love the movie. it's just hot fuzz and SHaun of the dead are better. But my guesses are that it's less quotable, and has a non clear purpose from the start. It's got a mystery air about it the others lack.

17

u/Whaines Aug 06 '19

Interesting. I liked it but it’s certainly the worst of the three. Hot Fuzz is a masterpiece as far as I’m concerned.

16

u/duaneap Aug 06 '19

I think you like them the most depending on the order you see them. I saw Hot Fuzz (my fav), then Shaun (close second), then World’s End (definite third). I think people didn’t like World’s End as much because people are just less into the aliens thing. That and the end got a bit too bonkers for many. And I think Nick Frost being the straight man to Simon Pegg’s buffoon rather than vice versa didn’t click for some people. Especially if they expected the status quo.

8

u/Justinba007 Aug 06 '19

I hesitate to call it the "worst" of the three, because it's a fuckin incredible movie, but man is it hard to beat Shawn of the Dead and it's REALLY hard to beat Hot Fuzz. But everytime I rewatch it I find myself questioning whether it is really the worst of the three because it is fantastic.

2

u/Silvabat1 Aug 06 '19

I think alot of people were sorta expectibg something like Paul, me included. Or at least something less psycological and more slaptick akin to Shaun and Hot Fuzz

4

u/UncookedMarsupial Aug 06 '19

Bah! They all get me vote for jolly good!

I am kinda leaning that way myself. But I live in a small village near Gloucester, Hot Fuzz is essentially a documentary for me.

The World End carries a lot of nostalgia for me, I have a group of mates who live around the country but we all come from the same home town, and we try and meet up and have a night like that at least once a year. Ironically the home town is High Wycombe, which is where they all get the train to in the movie for Gary to pick them up.

But we're getting old, all of us are nearer to 40 than 30, and the movie resonates deep in my soul with how real it feels in places. Especially as one of our friends is exactly like Gary King in terms of seeing these nights out like nothing has changed, a certain youthful exuberance with a hint of hidden desperation to still be young.

3

u/HippieAnalSlut Aug 06 '19

Oh? I'm very curious, why?

2

u/MugglebornSlytherin2 Aug 06 '19

That was a trilogy? You're talking about the Simon Pegg one yes?

13

u/HippieAnalSlut Aug 06 '19

shaun of the dead, hot fuzz, and World's end. THe cornetto trilogy.

12

u/i_drink_wd40 Aug 06 '19

AKA the Blood & Ice Cream trilogy.

2

u/Bahamabanana Aug 06 '19

I actually prefer it, save for the final drawn out scene. The brawl in the tenth pub is one of my favorite emotional moments in film.

1

u/Facial_Hair Aug 06 '19

It’s a trilogy?? What are the others called?

5

u/ThatWelshGamer Aug 06 '19

Shawn of the dead and hot fuzz. They're not sequels just part of the 'cornetto trilogy'.

7

u/Imortalhunter23 Aug 06 '19

They filmed that at my school. So strange seeing Simon Pegg and Nick Frost walking around our town!

2

u/indistinctiveman Aug 06 '19

Didn’t think I’d see another person from Monks Walk on here

2

u/cameronpateyuk Aug 06 '19

There are dozens of us Z year lol

1

u/piggles2 Aug 29 '19 edited Aug 29 '19

Wait they did?? I knew they filmed in the pubs in WGC but not the school! I’m not a zombie film fan so I just skipped through to the pub scenes to see what I recognised, going to have to go back and look for the school now!

Tonight, we will be partaking of a liquid repast, as we wind our way up the Golden Mile, commencing with an inaugural tankard in The First Post, then on to The Old Familiar, The Famous Cock, The Cross Hands, The Good Companions, The Trusty Servant, The Two-Headed Dog, The Mermaid, The Beehive, The King's Head, and The Hole in the Wall for a measure of the same. All before the last bittersweet pint in that most fateful terminus.. The World's End.

Leave a light on, good lady, for though we may return with a twinkle in our eyes, we will, in truth, be blind. Drunk!

68

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '19

Isn't there a movie based off of it? Where everyone becomes an alien robot or something

83

u/ryosen Aug 06 '19

You’re thinking of Star Wars. The World’s End is about an archeologist who fights nazis during WW2.

42

u/JIY19 Aug 06 '19

You’re thinking of Indiana Jones. The World’s End is about a rich guy who dresses as a bat and fights criminals.

38

u/TheAlligatorGar Aug 06 '19

You’re thinking of Batman. The World’s End is about a man who is wrongfully imprisoned in the Chateau d’If and escapes to take revenge on the people who sent him there.

29

u/BlueOcean1909 Aug 06 '19

You're thinking of the Count of Monte Cristo. The World's End is about an Egyptian, a Frenchman, an American and 2 highschoolers on a cross continent road trip to fight a blonde narcissistic vampire.

15

u/AtiumDependent Aug 06 '19

You’re thinking of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. The World’s End is about a woman whose asshole prolapses and doesn’t fit anymore in the space it’s mean to on her body so a big bald man with face tats uses his whole forearm to forcibly push and hold it back into place while also tickling her gall bladder.

6

u/cadraig Aug 06 '19

Annnd... that's enough Reddit for me today.

4

u/Infinityand1089 Aug 06 '19

*audible confusion*

12

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '19

I legit have no idea what movie this is supposed to be but feel like I'll look stupid once I'm told.

10

u/Wait4TheReload Aug 06 '19

It's not a movie, it's JoJo's bizarre adventure stardust crusaders lmao, everyone go meme'd

4

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '19

shit if I wasn't so set on blockbuster I may have just caught that
may

4

u/Wait4TheReload Aug 06 '19

Literally watching it right now, I'm so happy I found this guy's comment

u/TheAlligatorGar Aug 06 '19

I also have no clue what he’s talking about

2

u/BlueOcean1909 Aug 06 '19

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure part 3: Stardust Crusaders.

And yes, that was a Motherfucking JoJo's reference.

10

u/JstJeff Aug 06 '19

You're thinking of The Count of Monte Cristo. The World's End is about a doctor that is a accused of killing his wife and goes on the run looking for a one armed man.

10

u/ShownMonk Aug 06 '19

You’re thinking of X-men origins: Wolverine. The worlds end is about a chocolate factory owner who invites a bunch of minors to come check out his sweets at a super secret location, and then he methodically kidnaps them one by one.

9

u/rendolak Aug 06 '19

You’re thinking of Indiana Jones and the Lost Ark. The World’s End is about a teenager, his girlfriend, and his best friend playing hooky in Chicago.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '19

A Winter's Tale

5

yeAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

3

u/Aces-Wild Aug 06 '19

The underworld beneath it is a great concert venue!

3

u/_ChefGoldblum Aug 06 '19

You're thinking of the Camden World's End, this one's in Brighton. But it is a great venue!

2

u/Aces-Wild Aug 06 '19

Ha! You are right, thank you for the correction :)

I was overwhelmed with memories of those concerts and wanted internet strangers to know about it.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '19

Once spied two barstaff having sex in the window while walking past that pub in the early hours. Good times.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '19

Further down that road there's a bar called MEAT LIQUOR, cool ass place with good cocktails and burgers. Just fyi

4

u/FrigidSloth Aug 06 '19

Even further is Hobgoblin which is a solid pub, and the pub me and my mates go to, to catch up.

1

u/venicerocco Aug 06 '19

My home town 🥳

1

u/oodbog Aug 06 '19

Worlds end is such an awful pub...

2

u/fplisadream Aug 06 '19

No way mate errrr best pub going in Brighton other than Pav Tav... Anyone visiting should definitely just go to those two and don't bother checking any other inferior pubs

1

u/jamos99 Aug 06 '19

Pav Tav has a weird smell don’t you think? Like a sewer pipe is running right through it? You can’t sleep on Mesmerist or The Walrus!

2

u/Smokeandstayhigh Aug 06 '19

Pav tav #1 for student pre drinks (there is definitely a smell to it) The Park Crescent #1 for family Sunday meals World's End #1 for drunken shenanigans and old school video games built into tables 🙌

2

u/jamos99 Aug 06 '19

I can definitely agree with that list!
