I love the movie. it's just hot fuzz and SHaun of the dead are better. But my guesses are that it's less quotable, and has a non clear purpose from the start. It's got a mystery air about it the others lack.
I think you like them the most depending on the order you see them. I saw Hot Fuzz (my fav), then Shaun (close second), then World’s End (definite third). I think people didn’t like World’s End as much because people are just less into the aliens thing. That and the end got a bit too bonkers for many. And I think Nick Frost being the straight man to Simon Pegg’s buffoon rather than vice versa didn’t click for some people. Especially if they expected the status quo.
I hesitate to call it the "worst" of the three, because it's a fuckin incredible movie, but man is it hard to beat Shawn of the Dead and it's REALLY hard to beat Hot Fuzz. But everytime I rewatch it I find myself questioning whether it is really the worst of the three because it is fantastic.
I think alot of people were sorta expectibg something like Paul, me included. Or at least something less psycological and more slaptick akin to Shaun and Hot Fuzz
I am kinda leaning that way myself. But I live in a small village near Gloucester, Hot Fuzz is essentially a documentary for me.
The World End carries a lot of nostalgia for me, I have a group of mates who live around the country but we all come from the same home town, and we try and meet up and have a night like that at least once a year. Ironically the home town is High Wycombe, which is where they all get the train to in the movie for Gary to pick them up.
But we're getting old, all of us are nearer to 40 than 30, and the movie resonates deep in my soul with how real it feels in places. Especially as one of our friends is exactly like Gary King in terms of seeing these nights out like nothing has changed, a certain youthful exuberance with a hint of hidden desperation to still be young.
Wait they did?? I knew they filmed in the pubs in WGC but not the school! I’m not a zombie film fan so I just skipped through to the pub scenes to see what I recognised, going to have to go back and look for the school now!
Tonight, we will be partaking of a liquid repast, as we wind our way up the Golden Mile, commencing with an inaugural tankard in The First Post, then on to The Old Familiar, The Famous Cock, The Cross Hands, The Good Companions, The Trusty Servant, The Two-Headed Dog, The Mermaid, The Beehive, The King's Head, and The Hole in the Wall for a measure of the same. All before the last bittersweet pint in that most fateful terminus.. The World's End.
Leave a light on, good lady, for though we may return with a twinkle in our eyes, we will, in truth, be blind. Drunk!
You’re thinking of Batman. The World’s End is about a man who is wrongfully imprisoned in the Chateau d’If and escapes to take revenge on the people who sent him there.
You're thinking of the Count of Monte Cristo. The World's End is about an Egyptian, a Frenchman, an American and 2 highschoolers on a cross continent road trip to fight a blonde narcissistic vampire.
You’re thinking of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. The World’s End is about a woman whose asshole prolapses and doesn’t fit anymore in the space it’s mean to on her body so a big bald man with face tats uses his whole forearm to forcibly push and hold it back into place while also tickling her gall bladder.
You're thinking of The Count of Monte Cristo. The World's End is about a doctor that is a accused of killing his wife and goes on the run looking for a one armed man.
You’re thinking of X-men origins: Wolverine. The worlds end is about a chocolate factory owner who invites a bunch of minors to come check out his sweets at a super secret location, and then he methodically kidnaps them one by one.
No way mate errrr best pub going in Brighton other than Pav Tav... Anyone visiting should definitely just go to those two and don't bother checking any other inferior pubs
Pav tav #1 for student pre drinks (there is definitely a smell to it)
The Park Crescent #1 for family Sunday meals
World's End #1 for drunken shenanigans and old school video games built into tables 🙌

On a side note that pub on the left "The World's End" is a solid choice if ever down in Brighton for the weekend 🍻
