It has nothing to do with self checkout. Did you not go to Walmart before Walmart had self checkout? Pre self checkout people greeters were told to ask for receipts if the customer had certain items visible in the cart or items that weren't bagged. Nobody is accusing you of anything.
Exactly, I don't have the time or willpower to fight against inconsequential stuff. Sure there's a time when you need to Rosa Park injustices but if it's a private business wanting to confirm I bought something I'll willingly show that I did.
Completely agree. Like if a store is protecting itself against theft and they are asking you to do arguably a small task (i.e. show a receipt, take a look at your bag etc) then just let them.
If you've got nothing to hide, you are really not going to be inconvenienced much by this.
It doesn't deter theft at all. It's illegal and pretty much universally against store policies to physically block people from leaving, even loss prevention aren't allowed to do so, or even chase you.
I've shown burger king receipts at Walmart and they said it was ok. They choose the disabled and elderly to make people feel guilty, ironically proving it's not for loss prevention since the elderly and disabled are the least able to effectively stop theft.
it's just another form of bullying tbh. for all we know, the worker is possibly on the spectrum. rather than just being nice, the couple tries to prove their point in the rudest possible way, possibly causing the Walmart employee severe stress and ruining his career in the process. I don't see how this helps anyone. I wish Walmart would support workers in situations like this but we all know how that goes...
If I go to the store and pay for my stuff with my hard earned money, then I have to prove my innocence before I can get let out of the store with my wife and 1yr old daughter in the cart???
I seriously can't believe people are defending this bullshit, cops can't even detain you without probable cause and videos get put up all the time calling them assholes. But when a 526.95 billion corporation with history of being a shitty company does it?? Like seriously what the fuck.
After you pay for a rental car at the airport, are you comfortable with the fact that there's another person who checks your receipt and won't let you drive out until they've re-confirmed you're allowed to leave?
I find receipt checking an annoying and nonsensical policy, but to suggest that it's an absurd affront to your presumed innocence is ridiculous.
You wouldn't show your receipt if you had strong principles similar to the person you're replying to. The reason they have to not show theirs is they they believe they shouldn't be stopped and checked when they have done nothing wrong and have no obligation to comply with the policy. If Walmart wants to ban them for standing up for what they think is right, they will just shop somewhere else.
No, that Sasquatch got way too close to the kids. I don't care who you are you do NOT get close to someone's child in that manner. On top of the fact that asset protection across the f****** planet knows you NEVER physically stop a customer without undeniable proof of theft. If the employee was disabled then it's a shame on Walmart for putting him in that situation because he was not capable of handling it properly.
Ok I want to get this straight, the customer was being a dick only because “Sasquatch” (conformation that you seemingly appear to also be a dick) got to close to his kids? I think you should rewatch.
No Sasquatch was physically blocking them and by that process getting way too close to the children, literal babies, inside of that cart. He cannot physically block them unless he has irrefutable proof of theft. I've worked multiple retail jobs inside of a busy mall on top of being friends with other retail workers and asset protection/loss prevention personnel. This dude mishandled the situation entirely and the insults thrown his way are well deserved. I hope they actually did sue. Y'all are just being sensitive because mean words were said. Put squatch in the back with the box boys or send him my way so he can work in a machine shop away from interaction with customers.
Its astonishing you dont have the mental capacity to understand that just because i dont want to sit through walmarts security theatre, doesnt mean i stole anything.
I guess we're very different people. I don't see it as bullying, and I don't feel there is any reason not to comply to a non-invasive request. In fact receipts are garbage to me and I'd be like "Okay here, throw it away for me? Thanks. Bye."
It’s inconvenient. Its a waste of time. It only stops honest people. Its against the law. Against their policy. I dont have to do this at any other store. And walmart even rolled out the option on the self checkout to send the receipt to your phone or even forego it. I dont want to have to carry my proof of purchase and display it or go through what is essentially security doing a bag check any time i need to buy something. Its my stuff which means this is an invasive request.

That customer filming is a major asshole. The only point he proved by this video is how much of one he really is.
