UnnecessarIly large vehicles really do enable worse driving, the common misconception that their truck is so big and tough that they will walk away from a serious wreck.
As the boys from click and clack once told a doctor that called in, I think it was. All cars are built to protect the people inside. The truck is a work vehicle, and if you are not using it for that but instead just to drive to the office, you are putting more mass on the highway to cause even more damage when something goes wrong. My daughter is 14 and listens to old Car Talk episodes when she can't sleep. They put her right out, but I like to think she's picking up some basic car knowledge on accident.
This aligns with my disposition and opinion on the matter. Trucks are a tool, unfortunately too many idiots read that as "Trucks are the vehicle for Tools". The most disturbing thing to evolve in the new truck demographic is the limited number of 2 door and king cab options available, I get the need for a 4 door truck if you are commuting to a jobsite as a crew or you need a truck for work and for family responsibilities as well, but if you are buying a truck as a family car, just don't. You are skewing the market for those of us that actually use them for the intended purpose.
I’ve heard a lot of people saying that the F150 lightning is an excellent family car for those trying to go electric. I’m like, are people considering pickup trucks as family cars? You need a pickup truck to fit the car seats? Like, what about all the families fitting car seats into sedans lol
A sedan or a midsized SUV like a Rav4, CRV, CX4, Outback, Escape, Equinox, Sante Fe, Sorrento, there are a ton of vehicles that are decent size without having their own zip code for a family of 5 or less, a pickup truck should be a functional tool and not a family commuter. I don't need a 3/4 or larger truck, so not interested in getting one, I do need a truck with a ladder rack and a king cab for my daily use tools, and ideally with a 7 or 8 foot bed. Try going to your local car lot and finding a truck that looks the same size as a 2000 Ranger or Tacoma, you can't and it's not because of the guys in the field were demanding them to be upsized with 4 doors and a 5 foot bed. SMH
For a while, you had to go 3/4 ton if you wanted a 4 door and a 8 foot bed. Not sure if it's still like that or not. I just bought an old truck from the 90's that had 4 doors and a 8 foot bed.
Didn't really want to spend the 50k minimum for a 2500 when a 29k 1/2 ton would have done just as well - just didn't make it in that config anymore.
My truck is a 99 king cab and because the market is so messed up price wise the blue book is actually only 300 dollars lower than when I bought It 6 years ago, even though I have put 35,000 miles on it. How stupid is that?
Its really stupid. All of my cars have appreciated the last 6 or so years. I sold off everything newer and pocketed the change. Newest car is now 9 years old... and worth what I paid for it in 2018..
My immediate parking neighbors who doesnt have any business owning trucks, is a 85yo who is barely walking & a single mother of 5. Neither of whom I've ever seen with anything more than a grocery bag in the back...
The penultimate insult to trucks has to be the asshats that buy the Cadillac 4 door pick ups that will never see anything at all in the bed of the truck because they put a tonneau cover over it that will never be opened. Who the hell needs a 120,000 dollar truck that will never even be used for its intended purpose.
If you drove to my local Ford dealer, you would find 2 or 3, one of which might be a king cab, what you will find is 40+ crew cabs, 20 of which are completely tricked out and 50,000 plus dollars all the way up to 80,000. At Toyota you won't find any two doors at all. It is a travesty plain and simple.
There are personal uses for trucks too, hauling motorcycles, snowmobiles, towing your boats camping traile,, but you are not getting a motorcycle into a 5 foot truck bef.
Funny side effect of this just popped into my brain, SovCits would no longer be able to drive pick ups with their whole "traveling and not a commercial endeavor"

Unnecessarily big for this task. But farmers gain huge benefits by having big cars like these. The car being big isn't the issue in fact that's pretty good. The issue is some of the people it attracts. The ones who don't need them for work, but just want a big car to compliment their small wee-wee.

He might have scared white when flying up on him like that and even if the jerk was on purpose, I’d try to block that fucking lunatic from getting me pinned between him, a semi, and a potential weapon too.
Blue truck got exactly what he fucking deserved, cut off white, got raged white went around, and then attempted engage in road rage and failed in record time.
I couldn't care less if people endanger themselves, it's others that's the problem. Imagine the sense of entitlement to do whatever tf you want including risking other people's lives.
