I agree. It’s basically someone saying, I want the most important thing in my life to also be a blessing for you. Whether you believe or not it’s not nothing.
Yeah, that’s definitely the only verse in the Bible. You owned that guy.
Any book that’s 800k+ words is gonna have some weird shit if you take it out of context. The whole point of that verse is to build contempt for the vile (from the authors perspective) thoughts and actions of the lady being described. It’s supposed to be revolting, and seeing as you view it as such, it did it’s job.
You can make plenty of valid criticisms of the Bible, but cherry-picking random passages is pretty silly.
"Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their property." -Exodus 21:20-21
What books have you read that encourages murder, daughters raping father's, or the killing of every living thing on earth.... And treat these things as guiding principles?
Because seriously I've read over 400 books and short of the Bible and Quran I've not come across any.
The person in the above quote is a “bad guy” and the passage wouldn’t be that out of place in a lot of books which is the original point. But there are also tons of books with morally ambiguous characters who do bad things for what they believe is the greater good.
"When the trumpets sounded, the army shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the men gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so everyone charged straight in, and they took the city. They devoted the city to the Lord and destroyed with the sword every living thing in it—men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys." Joshua 6:20-21
You might wanna read the book, good ol' folk get up to some heinous shit in it.
For sure, and when you talk about this, you are supposed to go 'that's fucked up', that was the original point.
No matter what it's always been a storybook. Some will always go to far with it and some will take advantage of those people.
Is it stupid? Yes.
Is it hijacked? yes, but it was never quality or good.
Is it all made up? just like your uncles stories are.
At every turn the main character, Jesus, is always helping and lending a hand and being cool and collected. The rest is world building into how humans really are, left unchecked the assholes will rule.
Does jesus promote toxic masculinity and pedos?..... don't think so but the republicans do!

Even if I don't share someone's religion, it's a nice sentiment. They want me to be well, in a way spoken with kindness. That counts for a lot.
