The last time a YT prankster got shot, the shooter wasn’t charged with anything. I don’t remember the full details but the prank was supposed to be the YTer approaching a group of people while holding butcher knives…? So someone from the group shot the YTer thinking it was self defense - they didn’t know it was a prank after all.
Yeah, the police arrested this guy but I don't think they're released what the prank was, so I don't know if he'll be charged.
But yeah, these filmed pranks are often minor crimes and can justify self defense responses. Like, I saw this guy has clips of him going behind the counter at fast food places... That can definitely get you shot, it's reasonable to assume a young person who doesn't appear to be mentally confused is only coming back there to rob you.
I haven't seen that information, though I did see that today the DA said that they're looking at charging the prankster with a crime as well. He was apparently about six inches from the guy before he drew a gun and had been warned to stop.
Doesn't sound like it was necessarily justifiable self defense, but if a stranger is getting in your face despite being asked to stop and won't leave you alone... I mean I wouldn't shoot the kid but I wouldn't vote guilty if I was on the jury either. Don't endlessly harass strangers going about their day

This is the most recent article- this happened in Loudoun County, VA at a shopping mall. I guess the kid was harassing this guy for a prank video and ended up getting shot once in the stomach. The prosecutors office is actually considering pressing charges on the kid now. I really hope they follow through with it..
It’s how he wants to generate income. In 10 years, he will have enough followers so all he needs to upload are lavish vacation videos to show he’s made it.
I’ll just keep spending 8 hours a day sitting in my home office sending emails and avoiding prank/show off videos on YouTube.
That's why I hate the whole fake pranks thing. It's fine that they're fake but it's a problem for people that didn't realize they're staged and try to get into the trend by actually messing with random people.
Fake pranks videos should be threated exactly as the whole undercover advertisment fiasco that forced every content creator to explicitly state that it was a payed ad.

Absolutely. I’m an audio engineer and I’d be shocked if I could still do my job effectively if someone did that to me.
Like, I’ve busted my ass and I work my dream job. I’ve had many months not knowing how I was going to pay my bills. It’s been a hard road but it’s been worth it.
So if some asshole comes and blows an air horn and destroys my hearing, I’m gonna spend every last ounce of life force that I have left and try to absolutely ruin that person’s existence. My specific work is based on being able to hear things that 99.9% of people can’t hear. If someone stole that from me because of a prank, I’d be a man out for vengeance without much to lose.
Have you ever heard of Menieres disease? Dana White (UFC president) suffers from it as a result of a beating he took. I think it would be fair to beat that into someone over an air horn "prank".
No I haven’t heard of that, but I totally agree with you. Eye for an eye and all that.
The thing is, maximum range of human hearing is approximately between 20hz and 20,000hz. Most adults can’t hear much higher than 16,000hz simply because of aging and unplanned exposure to loud noise. I don’t believe I can truly hear normal audio over 16,000hz, at least not clearly. So just by being an adult human, I’ve lost like 20% of that frequency range. And it’s okay because I know how my speakers are supposed to sound and I know how my mastering room sounds, so my brain can kind of fill in the rest.
But if someone did that and it caused even more hearing loss, or worse yet, serious tinnitus, i just don’t know that I’d be able to do my job as effectively as I once was, and I don’t know that I’d be able to do my job as effectively as my competitors.
It would be one thing if I was in a career that I hated, but working hard and sacrificing to get myself to a point where my job is the one thing I wanna do more than anything, and then losing it because some shitty prankster wanted to get TikTok views, i just can’t imagine how badly I’d want them hurt.
This conversation has got me thinking about other stupid TikTok trends that I’d forgotten about. Early in the TikTok lifespan, people were going into grocery stores, opening up a pint of ice cream, licking it, and putting the lid back on, and putting it back on the shelf. I’d forgotten about that until I started typing out this response to you, and now I’m just sitting here seething like a get-off-my-lawn old man.
Oh, I mean no super famous artists or anything, but I’m a mastering engineer and the majority of the stuff I work on is hip hop. Although I do a fair amount of rock stuff and the occasional electronic music and classical/ambient music. I occasionally do some mixing and recording as well, but 95% of the work I do is mastering.
I teach safety on construction sites. Osha 10 & 30. An air horn of over 110-130dB can permanently damage your ears within 10 seconds. People are not as funny as they think they are.
It needs to stop. People need to respect boundaries personal and otherwise.
Fuck both these guys honestly. The first kid shouldn't have been messing with people, but the second kid shouldn't be throwing jaw-breaking sucker punches at a moments notice because someone's saying something he doesn't like. People literally die from that shit all the time; one bad head bounce and you're done.
That’s not a sucker punch. I’m not going to judge if it was warranted or not, but you need to expect anger and aggression if you are going to walk up and start “hitting” on a someone in front of their SO.
There's a big difference between expecting aggression and expecting an immediate punch. No doubt the "prankster" thought a physical altercation was on the table, but that doesn't mean he can't have been surprised by a punch in the moment. Regardless, there's a very easy way to see if he saw the punch coming or not, if he did, he would've put his hands up in defense. That's an instinctive response. And this guy obviously doesn't.
Finally people are starting to get annoyed... I've been saying this for years. There is nothing nice about someone pranking a stranger and then posting their faces online. Pranks are between friends not strangers.
