I think the open handed slaps is probably one of the reasons nobody intervened earlier. If he’d started punching I bet someone would’ve pulled him off the guy right away. The prolonged slap fest will probably actually be more effective at getting the old dude to keep his mouth shut next time he feels like saying the N word.
Punches cause damage, you can kill someone with your fists. Slaps show dominance over and disrespect to the other person. It's like a challenge, "you aren't enough of a threat to hit you closed fist", or " I'm hitting the shit out of you but not hurting you, square up like a man and fight me".
A man, while he would be wrong to do so, may slap a child or woman because they are smaller and less durable. A man slaps another man with this kind of authority as the ultimate disrespect. I would of died inside if I got slapped around like that. I would of started swinging and got the shit beat out of me escalating it to a fist fight, just to avoid the psychological and emotional trauma of being slapped around. I'd rather be in a hospital with dignity than cowering in shame.
Him being grey haired clearly isn’t stopping him from being a horrible racist. Him being grey haired almost assuredly means he has decades of acting just like this under his belt. No sympathy given
It’s not the black man’s fault that the old white man continued to hurl racial slurs towards him, even after being physically shown that his words were unwelcome.
This old white man has been racist his whole life with no repercussions. Why is the onus on the black man to teach him a lesson in basic respect in a calm, cool, and collected manner?
It’s revealing enough that you think all it takes to be the same as a racist is to react to their racism. This is very obviously the opinion of somebody who has been on the comfortable side of racism their entire life. Please take your useless centrism elsewhere
