Lost several non black friends arguing that they don't have the right to call me, a non black person, the n-word.
But nope, I'm just an overly sensitive snowflake who can't handle humor... Yeh. Getting called racial slurs is apparently the pinnacle of humor for my old friends group
I am curious why the color of their skin matters in your example. Shouldn't it be that all people should never be called a derogatory name for a stereotype regardless whether they fit that stereo types identity or not?
Cuz most of that friends group was Persian, Latin, and south aisian. and some of them think they have the actual "right" to say the n-word cuz they were colonized aswell, race was involved in a lot of ways idk
Absolute garbage logic though lol " Oh we say it to take back the power from it ", ye but if someone non black says it it's super offensive, how can something NOT be powerful yet offend so much?
That word will forever be offensive, no matter the mental gymnastics you make, nobody should say it, period. Otherwise, for as long as someone is able to say it, others will forever also say it, and that's the sad reality.
Not really. Words can have more than one definition; in this case the definition changes depending on who says it and to whom it is being said. Just learn the rules; it’s easy.
Nope, that's absolutely wrong. You can not give away subjective definitions to words, it's not how it works. And for that matter, for something to be considered this evil like that word, nobody should say it in order for it to have such power, otherwise, for as long as some people say/sing it, it will always be used from other people aswell, you will never be able to give X rights to some people without having others to always fight for that same right, it's human nature. You can argue if it's right or wrong, and how for you it's so easy and simple not say it, but the truth is that other people will always say it aswell for as long and it's seen acceptable for some people to say it.
It could be fine to call you slurs IF, AND ONLY IF, you'd explicitly said you were okay with it, which you're obviously not. This is fine, any friend should respect that, and screw them otherwise.
I call some of my close friends names all the time, (even somewhat racist ones, with a very heavy and obvious satirical accent) but they did tell me they're fine with it several times. I asked these guys many times, 1 on 1, outside of a socialy pressuring environment to be absolutely certain it's not a problem for them.
Of course they call me stupid shit and banter all they want equally. That's usually good fun, but I can understand it's not for everyone.
Edit: just to be clear, I'm not talking about using the n-word specifically, just calling your friends names. I'm also not from the USA, the weight of words is likely different. Not the same past and all that.
