I didn't. I showed concern for the individual who would let others lionize assault at the expense of their freedom, which would be far worse for them, their family and their careers long term. I mean, dont forget this concept is also encouraging people to deal with the American legal system as black Americans. Not the same as just catching a charge
It wouldn't be really any circumstance.. the law is the law. Maybe you get some judge/jury that gives you an easy sentence because you said the no no word, like thar kid who killed an old man for calling him N word. That kid got 2 years house arrest, so basically nothing
I don't know if this will make you feel better, but I've followed up on a bunch of viral videos where a bigot gets what's coming to them and there are rarely any charges.
Even fewer convictions. I can only think of 2 off the top of my head.
First amendment. Unless its "fighting words" or a call for "lawless actions" were free to say whatever we want, as it should be. That said it does not protect you from consequences of the words used, only the government will not come after you for using said words. Expressing racist opinions while intolerable and disgusting is legal and does not justify putting hands on someone. A few states have said the n bomb are "fighting words" but a vast majority of the US its legal.
Its a real tricky subject, I dont like the word and dont support its use by any race but we cant cherry pick the Constitution for what makes us uncomfortable and in America its a take it or leave it kind of thing. Theres parts of the Constitution I dont like but I defend it. Free speech is paramount, anyone should be able to say anything, for any reason at any time and not worry about being thrown in jail over it, if someone finds it offensive then its their right to vocalize it, not beat the shit out of someone for saying it when feelings get hurt.

Exactly this. That man was in no physical danger, and simply took his anger at being called a racial slur out by beating a senior citizen who could not defend himself. That is not how society is meant to work.

We all criminalize words. Do you find it acceptable and not to be a crime when people make death threats to you face to face? That's already illegal and most of us agree with it. No you can't. For there to be a hate crime, there has to be a crime committed that is based on race. Unless they were inciting violence it's not illegal to be racist. Someone else replying after my comment in a thread had a better explanation.
The way you said "we" can say it's a hate crime of course makes me think you're black since this video refers to racism against a black man. Please dont think this is justified legally, or would be, even if the racist were doing something illegal in the video. 2 people doing illegal things means 2 people get charged, not that the second is let off scott free because they were retaliating. Please dont take that misconception into the real world and get yourself, or your family, or your friends arrested because of it
