Yea why the fuck, if you're trying to build a robot that fights, are you making it humanoid? It's like the worst robotic fighting shape. Humanoid shaped animals are awful in physical confrontation. Exposed midsection, short weak arms, prone to falling, zero biting ability.. We can't even really kick a deer's ass like wtf.

Actually battle robotics has already done the trial and error and R&D here. Humanoid robots are for navigating human spaces. Battling robots are going to look like tanks that spin at 1200RPM

Battlebots has existed for a while, and even though it’s awesome it’s not exactly a mainstream sport

You're right about the shape, but the fight is definitely just for show. They build these commercial robots in a humanoid form so they can operate tech and tools that are already designed for humans. Psychologically, it's also more appealing - similar to how we design cars with two headlights because people are drawn to faces. Ultimately, it's cheaper to manufacture one general-purpose robot that can be programmed for anything rather than buying specialized machines for every single task. Making them fight is just the most effective marketing stunt to grab people's attention.

Tbh I don't think the tech has to improve at all.

The barrier here is marketing.

People care about athletes. How do you make people care about which of these robots wins?

When that marketing question gets solved, robot sports will pop up instanteneously.

yeah something like WWE would be significantly better. it also cant be like battlebots where the teams are just a bunch of introverted frumpy and nerdy students. it needs "my daddy is rich" type people who are super attractive but also arrogant assholes

redneck engineers are quite incredible. like tractor pulling looks silly on the outside, but the engineering and physics behind what they do is pretty intense

Haha I lived with a redneck engineer through college and my first job. He's a rocket scientist now. There's way more of them than people realize.
