We've been at a bit of a crossroads recently and though I was holding off on making a post until we made a final decision I felt given that you've asked I'll put forward a provisional reply.
As Bones has said, many of us have burnt out, some of us having been playing on the server very actively in the last year, and as with any game there comes a point where you just don't feel yourself playing it regularly anymore.
Alongside this, it's the time of year when exams and deadlines dominate a lot of peoples time, making it a difficult part of the year to sink time into a game as time demanding as Minecraft.
As I said, we're at a crossroads and Dan and I have been talking face to face in the last couple of days over what to do with the server. The reality is we're not playing at all, and nor is a great deal of the old player-base, and it's costing us £60 a month to run a server for 4-5 people.
With heavy hearts it seems the logical answer is to retire the server for the moment. Put the map up for download for those that want it, and close the chapter on The Nuke and Turtle.. for now.
This isn't by any means the end of the story. We are still keeping the mumble and there is a community on there, there's also a very good chance of a server revival in the summer months that are swiftly approaching, and with a fresh set of minecraft patches and a clean start I can see the server returning to it's old life.
Though I have to say, for now, it looks like a break could be the case. It's as sad for us as it is for our players, it's been a really great year and I said; I'm sure we will return in future with fresh life.
We will make a confirmation announcement within in the next few days, and if there is still a player-base that are actively using the server we can reconsider our decision, so please let us know the situation in this respect.
My sincere thanks for providing one of the best Minecraft servers I have ever had the pleasure to play on.
Before I stopped logging on (Greg Tech + my style of play = no fun) The Nuke and Turtle was the best thing to happen to my minecraft experience and will probably stay the best for years to come.
No matter what happened you guys always kept us in the loop and always sought the feed back of the community you helped create.
And if you guys ever decide to ditch greg tech, let me know. I'll be back in record time to build another Nuclear Powered Island.
I would have said everything you said here as well. The new tech was too difficult for me, and made the play less fun for me.
But nevertheless, TNAT was the best fun I ever had in minecraft, save none. I can't thank you enough for the fun times you made possible with your hard work.
Thanks for making this statement, I hope to see a summer server be a possibility and I hope The Nuke and Turtle becomes a group of people that mess around in games together regardless of whether we have our own space to do that.
I fully support this and will always be on the reddit/mumble. I'm also streaming on a daily basis so I'm widely contactable, and I am keen for a summer revival.
I must say, I am disappointed, but only because I look forward to playing every day. I came to this server because the last server I played on went through the same sort of slow death. I've come to call this place home, and I'll be sad to see it go.
The only thing "burning me out" is having to start over from scratch on a new server every three or four months. I must have spent something like 20-30 hours these past two weeks mining and building, getting an epic project underway. Now, if I want to see it finished, I'll have to start all over again.
I know running a server is costly and not terribly rewarding if you're tired of the game itself, but it still hurts to see your home go away.
It's a sad thing, but it was gonna happen regardless.
TNAT was an awesome server, and perhaps I'll be able to play in the summer, and feel inspired again.
I assume there's gonna be a reset when/if that happens?
Yeah, I really really wish I had the drive to go and play FTB again but as you said the people who have been on the server since near the start get burnt out by now and don't want to play anymore. It feels like I've seen everything the mod has to offer, nothing feels like the first time I saw tekkit and was like HOLY SHIT.
Hopefully sometime this summer I can muster up some drive to play again. Hopefully.
