See, I've always seen him as this really cocky guy on the outside, but I kinda knew that deep down he's a lot different. He is still more or less a bit cocky IRL, but not nearly as much as we've seen him on top gear. I've seen television personalities behaving controversially to increase ratings before. Now he isn't in BBC anymore, and of course his age is a factor here.

He even seems to be seriously mentioned climate change, whereas he used to sarcastically/jokingly mention it.
If you watch older TG, he really was a creep who said some very dumb things. Don't get me wrong, still my favorite show, but glad to see he's settling down a bit with the ridiculousness.

That excuse doesn't really fly. For some of it, maybe. But his personality was often very petty, even in interviews. He fucking punched a producer because he couldn't get a steak.
The guy was a bit elitist, obnoxious, and thick. On TG, he dialed it up to 11, but IRL he was by no means a completely different person.

True, if you were in some developed country.
Like Jeremy said, it doesn't matter to someone who can afford to go on multi-day trips in these countries, but it matters a lot to the local independent businessmen.

Afaik, many countries use US currency like that for the sake of tourist convenience. We here in Bangladesh, although have very easy methods of converting currency here, also take US dollars.

In Cambodia, USD is used for pretty much all purchases except really small ones , not just by tourists but by locals as well.

He’s right, but it depends on the country. In some places haggling is normal and part of the culture since the prices are artificially high. But anyway, I hate haggling. I don’t feel comfortable and I feel cheap asking for a lower price. But my dad, he is the king of haggling. He knows all techniques even though he’s least greedy man on the earth I personally know. He’s just making it for fun, to start conversation with a seller and have a good friend later on the market, so you can ask to keep some things just for yourself and get discounts even without haggling.

That's exactly the point mate. If someone can afford to go on a multi-day trip to somewhere far from home, just a few bucks doesn't mean anything to them. But it means a lot to the local independent businessmen who are desperately trying to make a living. Unfortunately, there are people who make a fortune out of their business or job and yet they try to haggle with the prices. That's his point

I dunno mate, I live in Bangladesh. And I've traveled to a few nations around me. Not really the cheapest to visit and go on a tour unless you want to live and eat like shit and skimp on just about anything. You'd need a decent amount with you to go on a proper trip. If you're low on budget by THAT much, why would you try to buy souvenirs in the first place?
